Officials from the Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport have confirmed that air transportation services have significantly reduced during the extended partial lockdown in Bali.
The Stakeholder Relations Manager of Angkasa Pura I Ltd for Bali Airport, Taufan Yudhistira confirmed that the air traffic at Bali airport from the 1st to 11th of August 2021 has significantly reduced in comparison to last month. “According to our data, we recorded an over 55% reduction with air travel within the first 11 days of this month, in comparison with the same period in July 2021.” Yudhistira said on Thursday (12/8).
Yudhistira explained that the Bali airport saw around 23,059 passengers from both departures and arrival from the 1st to 11th of August 2021 with an average of 2,096 passengers per day. During the same period in July, Bali airport saw 51,331 passengers with an average of 4,666 passengers per day. He also admitted that the situation was a direct result of the travel restrictions that was implemented by the central government during the level 4 partial lockdown in Bali and Java.
However, Yudhistira ensures that despite the reduction in the amount of passengers, the management of the Bali airport is still on top of implementing strict prevention protocols during their operations. “We have a special team that will constantly move around to ensure that everyone in our facility is complying with prevention protocols such as wearing facemasks, carrying out physical distancing, and keeping their hands sanitized.” Yudhistira concluded. Meanwhile, the Bali Governor has recently announced that all visitors must meet all requirements such as showing proof of a Covid-19 vaccination and negative PCR test in order to gain access onto the island during this extended partial lockdown.
