Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has confirmed that flights between Doha and Denpasar have resumed operations.

The confirmation comes after major flight disruptions were recorded on Wednesday, 25th June, due to tensions in the Middle East impacting flight path safety.

The Acting General Manager of Ngurah Rai Airport, Wahyudi, spoke to reporters on Thursday, 26th June, to share updates on flight shields at the international terminal.

He told reporters, “We ensured that there was no overcrowding in the terminal. The airline efficiently rescheduled departures and provided appropriate services to passengers in accordance with established procedures.”

One of the affected flights on Wednesday was Qatar Airways flight QR 963 from Denpasar to Doha, which was scheduled to depart at 7:20 PM WITA with 244 passengers on board. The flight was canceled at short notice due to the temporary airport shutdown in Qatar.

Wahyudi told reporters, “Airport operations remained smooth and orderly throughout the process.”

He confirmed that to support passenger comfort during potentially stressful travel changes and to help coordinate solutions and communication, the airport provided a dedicated waiting area on the second-floor lobby of the international terminal where passengers could speak directly with airline representatives who could help rearrange their travel plans.

Wahyudi confirmed that the Denpasar–Doha route is typically served by Qatar Airways with three flights daily. With flight services now fully restored, it is hoped that all international flight activities to and from Bali can continue without further disruption.

Nevertheless, Wahyudi also advised all passengers to actively monitor their flight schedules and stay in close communication with their respective airlines.

He concluded, “We hope that Doha International Airport will fully resume operations soon and that the global situation stabilizes.”

The news that Doha Airport had been temporarily closed due to the conflict in the Middle East resulted in increased security presence at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and police units were deployed at the terminal building to help support both airport staff and affected passengers.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, the Head of Public Relations of the Airport Police, Ipda I Gede Suka Artana, told reporters, “As soon as we received information about the cancellation of flight QR963 by Qatar Airways, personnel were immediately deployed to secure and supervise the international terminal. We also prioritized a humanist approach by conveying information in a dialog way to passengers so that the situation remains calm and conducive.”

I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport serves dozens of flight routes to and from the Middle East multiple times a day. Not only are direct flight services on offer to Doha, but also to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah.

As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East and conflicts intensify, tourists whose journeys to Indonesia are set to enter airspace in the region are reminded to keep a close eye on updates from their airlines, including those who are set to take layovers in Asia before catching connecting flights to Bali.

Flight services that could be affected by the conflict in the future include services and connecting services from Istanbul, Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah and flights from Europe.

Tourists can seek consular support in the event of major travel disruptions, though it is advisable to contact airlines directly to confirm any flight changes or disruptions.

Most airlines provide up-to-the-minute travel warnings and updates on social media and on their website and passengers are often contacted directly via SMS or email in the event of flight changes.

Travelers heading to Bali, or anywhere in the world, are urged to ensure that they have fully comprehensive travel insurance before they start their journeys.

Travel insurance should include comprehensive coverage in the event of travel delays, disruptions, or cancellations, as well as emergency medical care.
