President Subianto visited Bali on 26th June with a jam-packed schedule of official visits and inaugurations.

Not only did the President officially open the new Bali International Hospital in Sanur, but he also inaugurated the Ngoerah Sun Wellness and Aesthetic Center health facility at the Central General Hospital (RSUP) at Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah in Denpasar.

The Presidential Secretariat confirmed that the President’s visit is part of the central government’s commitment to developing Bali Province. President Subianto was accompanied on his visit by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The Presidential Secretariat shared, “President Prabowo’s working visit to Bali not only confirms the government’s focus on the health and economic sectors, but also strengthens Bali’s position as a strategic destination for the transformation of public services with international standards.”

During his inauguration speech, President Subianto praised the hard work of all parties involved in the multi-million dollar project, which took over five years to bring to life.

The project was instigated by the last President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. President Subianto told reporters “I think (Sanur Special Economic Zone) is a breakthrough for the first time in our republic, we are planning, or creating a special economic zone for world-class, international-class health services.”

He emphasized that the new hospital is a chance for Indonesians to step up to be a world leader in the medical sector, with a specific focus on the multi-billion-dollar medical tourism sector.

He shared, “Indonesia is a country that wants to develop rapidly. We must catch up with other nations. We cannot use old methods, inefficient methods, wasteful methods, improper management.”

President Subianto continued “Today this KEK (Special Economic Zone) is an example, one of the breakthroughs towards catching up on our backwardness, and this must be imitated by many other sectors.”

He added, “I saw that Bali International Hospital was also extraordinary. When I entered, I thought it was a hotel. Indeed, the hospital has a hotel feel. The floors are marble. What I mean is, Indonesia is a big country, a developed country, dynamic so we must also have the best facilities.”

While fundamentally a private health care facility, targeted towards privately paying Indonesian patients and international medical tourists, President Subianto was clear that he wants the new Bali International Hospital and the facilities within the Sanur Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism to benefit the wider Balinese and Indonesian population.

He told reporters, “I feel proud that Indonesia has facilities like this, and with our insurance system, we must feel strong. This is not limited only to the upper class, with health services that anyone needs. If necessary insurance and government intervention [will be issued] so that people who are less economically able can also have access to the best services because there are also advanced tools here.”

The Bali International Hospital located in the heart of Sanur spans over more than 67,000 square meters. The facility offers 255 beds and has dedicated units for cardiology, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, hepatology, and orthopedics. There is a full intensive care unit and an emergency ward.

Its a fantastic hospital. Medivacs to Singapore or Australia are now highly unlikely to be required again.Congrats Bali on what's an absolutely 1st Class facility .

@Solo60, Jakarta has better qualified trained health care facilities than in Bali. Will never go to Singapore but rather Penang for a second opinion if all that.

Jakarta has still a better health care with cancer and heart specialized hospitals that even people from abroad come for consultation and treatment. There is also a kidney transplant center in a hospital that has saved 415 patients or more successfully. This hospital group has won the Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for its unwavering commitment to enhancing clinical outcomes and setting new benchmarks in patient survival and quality care across its hospital network. Best oncology award for 2025 and best pulmonary award for 2025.

Bali is coming along with slowly since this island is now gentrified. Sad... However there has been a trend lately where Australians come to Bali for dental work.

Bali has some serious work to do repairing its reputation for medical treatment, really cannot see anyone in their right mind choosing to come here for anything serious.

@Randy, Guessing in this instance the article is specifically about Bali and is posted in Bali news with people residing in Bali commenting. Have never been treated in Jakarta neither have any friends I know so cant really comment. Why is it that even insurance companies would rather foot the bill and fly unfortunate people outside of Indnonesia rather than treat them here or Jakarta?, flying out seems to be the top priority for anyone where it's possible.

Congrats! It’s a start. Let’s see if the legal foreign residents who underestimate the health care system in Bali would seek medical help and treatment in this new hospital and that their insurance would even cover it rather than going to BPJS (Indonesian National health care) joint facilities.

Bali is Bali but beyond that there is still a good health care facilities in Jakarta. However there has been a trend lately where Australians come to Bali for dental work.

Some residing foreigners are sucked into this vacuum of “je ne sais quoi” living in Bali and still have many complaints about it to this day. Perhaps that mentality of Bali is free for all that get them thinking to stay regardless. Indonesia is not only Bali.
