An employee of Ngurah Rai Airport, identified as Rahardian Pratama from Pemalang, Central Java, has been arrested for embezzling thousands of dollars from an ATM machine inside the Ngurah Rai Airport.
During a press conference, Head of Denpasar Police Department, Kombes Pol Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, alongside Head of Airport Criminal Investigation Bureau, Iptu AA Made Suantara, confirmed that the suspect was arrested after he was proven guilty for an embezzlement case which caused a massive loss to the bank linked to the airport.
“The suspect admitted that he has been doing this illegal activity from July to December 2021 with the ATM machine inside the domestic terminal of Bali Ngurah Rai Airport,” Kombes Pol Jansen said on Monday (10/5).
Pratama managed to pull it off as he was working as the operator that refills cash into the empty ATM machines inside the airport. During this event, the suspect embezzled approximately USD 36,600 (IDR 530,550,000) of cash from the ATM.
The investigation began when officers received a report from I Putu Arta Sedana (aged 27) from SSI Limited, the company that employed the suspect.
The company suspected a problem when they detected a huge difference in their amount of cash in their audit. The investigation led police to Pratama.
“The suspect admitted that he deliberately put errors in the ATM machine by using tools such as empty bottles and cans, pliers, and screwdrivers. Rahardian is now being detained and was charged for violating Article 374 of the Criminal Law Constitution regarding embezzlement,” Kombes Pol Jansen concluded.
