With high season just around the corner in Bali, I Gusti Ngruah Rai International Airport is preparing to welcome hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers for the vacation of a lifetime.

Latest travel figures show that last mont,h Bali Airport recorded over 2 million passenger movements, over 12,119 flights.

Speaking to reporters, the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Wahyudi, revealed that the spike in arrival figures for April 2025 corresponded with the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

In April 2025 a total of 2,028,344 passengers passed through Bali Airport’s domestic and international terminals. Wahyudi shared “In the first week [of April], people were still enjoying the long holiday of Eid al-Fitr, then in the third week there is also a long weekend during the commemoration of Good Friday and Easter.”

He explained that during the Eid holiday period from 1st – 7th Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport served 495,879 passengers. During the Good Friday and Easter holidays from 17th – 20th April a further 280,692 passengers were recorded as passing through the airport.

In these two periods, the daily average of passengers served reached 70,000 people per day, an increase of 16% compared to the daily average in 2025, which was 60,000 passengers.

This increase of passengers during the festive season is being viewed as a positive sign for the growth of Bali’s tourism sector in 2025 and is helping inform preparation plans for the peak vacation season which will start in June and run through to the end of August, or early September.

Wahyudi told reporters “The domestic route that served the most passengers in April was Jakarta (CGK) reaching 336,743 people. Surabaya had 119,119 people and the Labuan Bajo route served 51,474 passengers.”

“Meanwhile, Singapore became the favorite international route in April with services to 241,213 people. Followed by the Kuala Lumpur route with 145,044 people and the Melbourne route with 43,910 passengers.”

The airport official confirmed that Australian citizens still dominate international arrivals figures with 141,634 people entering Bali through Ngurah Rai Airport throughout April 2025 alone. India and China followed with 50,879 and 47,166 people, respectively.

According to Wahyudi, the achievements in April are strong indicators to Bali’s tourism leaders that the island remains a leading world destination. He noted, “In general, the operational performance of the airport in April shows that Bali is still in demand as a world-class tourist destination.”

We also continue to take steps to improve services to airport service users both in terms of facilities and connectivity.”

Bali’s I Gusti Ngruah Rai International Airport has recently been named among the best airports in the world. Bali Airport was ranked as the 6th best regional airport in Asia in 2025 in the Skytrax World Airport Awards. The airport was also placed 72nd in the world’s top 100 rankings, jumping up two places from 2024.

In a statement issued after the announcement of the big win earlier this month, Airport Manager Manager Ahmad Syaugi Shahab told reporters “The increase is proof that Bali Island is still in demand by tourists, both domestic and foreign as a superior destination. We make sure that the service at the airport is always excellent to support the growth of the tourism sector in Bali.”

And how meny payment did bali get it airport is a disgrace. To meny people with sines and no public transport and when you get out it's wall to wall traffic

25 years living in Bali with monthly overseas flights here's my perspective. On the plus side immigration process has drastically improved. On the negative side the baggage service and customs when arriving is still extremely inefficent. Almost everytime the carousel number is not the one displayed on the screen. You can wait for 45 minutes and then they change the carousel number. Total Waiting time for baggage can take up to 1.5 hours from arrival and then another massive cue through the customs lines. Can take 2 hours from landing to get out of the terminal.

Transport is no problem. I use grab and the grab lounge staff are extremely helpful.

General traffic in Bali is heading towards Jakarta levels and eventually this will be a main cause people to choose other destinations for their vacations. Living on the bukit the traffic is ridiculous the past couple years.1 hour to travel 4kms the other day in a car due to all the roadworks I'm ungasan. They decide to do roadworks om every road at the same time so there are NO clear roads for traffic to even attempt to flow . The amount of construction is insane and trucks of building materials plus the increase number of tourists and locals servicing the tourists just make getting around the bukit a nightmare.

I went through some small streets in bingin the other day there must have been 30 construction projects on one small road only wide enough for one car. Seems the traffic problems due to small roads is not being addresses at all. From the street you can see 3 projects deep. So tightly packed these vilas it was Clostraphobic.

Noone seems to learn the lessons of overcrowding and traffic. It's a real shame because the island is getting destroyed by too many humans, too much traffic, pollution and seems they want to just keep increasing the tourist numbers without addressing these problems caused by too many tourists already. Let's hope the Government can start to rectify these issues before it gets too much worse. More tourists is not what Bali needs more roads and more regulation to control the expansion is the only thing that will have a sustainable result for the future.

As shown, more and more modest tourists will arrive

"Bali’s I Gusti Ngruah Rai International Airport has recently been named among the best airports in the world".

I have recently travelled via Singapore Changi, Suvarnabhumi Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo Narita, Korea Incheon. There is no way that any Indonesian airports are up "among the best airports in the world". That is delusional.

Just look at the luggage handling chaos, taxi chaos and lack of public transport apart from taxi. Extortionate foreign exchange, food and drink prices. Not to forget the chaos of locals milling around exit areas blocking and offering their scam taxi services while smoking kretek. Is it too much to ask to walk peacefully out to a well organized taxi stand with fair and fixed prices like Singapore?

Well lets just get more and more tourists. Yesterday took me 4 hours from Sanur to Kerobokan, to Mengwi. One hour from LiO corner to get through the Canngu interchange. At trip to Lovina that used to take 3.5 hours took 6.5. Yep, more tourists is what we need.
