A Bali official has confirmed that the rumor about the plan to raise visa on arrival fees for international travelers was false information.
The Head of Bali Law and Human Rights Minister, Jamaruli Manihuruk, stated that the recent rumor about the government’s plan to triple the visa on arrival fee at Bali Airport was a hoax.
“In accordance with the current regulation, the fee is still USD $35 (IDR 500,000) per person. That was just a false information,” Jamaruli said on Saturday afternoon (16/4).
Jamaruli explained that changing a government’s regulation requires a long process, and the government is required to make an official announcement before finally implementing its policy.
“I urge everyone to stop spreading false information, especially as Bali tourism starts to recover and international travelers begin to visit the island,” Jamaruli added.
A rumor regarding the plan to raise the visa on arrival fee from IDR 500,000 to IDR 1.5 million circulated, as The Bali Sun previously reported.
This caused tourism stakeholders from the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association to object to the policy as it might negatively impact the tourism industry that has been struggling since the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

@Wayan Bo, yeah non EU citizens including Americans exempted from visas will have to apply the new ETIAS program 7 Euro or $ 8 bucks. An additional Paperwork. It could take minutes or 30 days before you get an authorization to travel within the Schengen zone. But there will be a transition period when the ETIAS kicks in at end of 2022 so not until sometime in 2023 when you have to apply on line.

@Randy, the visa fee can’t be higher then for European countries where persons from outside of EU (ages between 18 years and 70y.) have to pay € 7.- visa entrance fee by online visa application, starting in near future.

In the west, politicians call it ‘floating a trial balloon’, to gauge public sentiment without actually committing to a policy. If the local sentiment had been favorable or anti-foreigner ( as it is in Thai and Malaysia) to the governors position the increase in fee’s would have gone ahead. As it is, locals are desperate for tourism to return and want no more stumbling blocks or impediments to the end of the Covid nightmare.
