A 45-year-old man named Florian Rensak from Slovenia has been rescued from the coastal area of Bunutan village on Tuesday (24/8) by a fisherman.
Officials from Bunutan village, Made Suparwata confirmed that Florian and his guide Nengah Ardana were rescued by fishermen after their boat capsized due to the bad weather that suddenly stirred up when they were enjoying their boat trip on Tuesday morning. “The victims were rescued by a fisherman named I Nengah Mangku Kamasan from Amed, who coincidentally spotted the Slovenian man as he was trying to swim towards shore that morning.” Suparwata said.
Prior to the incident, Ardana and Florian departed from the shore and began the boat trip on Tuesday morning around 10:00am. After a couple hours, the weather suddenly changed which resulted in the wind and the waves getting big enough to capsize their boat. “The boat was found around 1,823 meters from the shore and thankfully Florian was found by the witness Gunarta, as he began to swim back to the shore.” Suparwata added.
Once Gunarta managed to evacuate Florian to a safer place, he asked other fishermen to help him find Ardana that was still missing on the sea. Ardana was finally found a short distance from his boat around 2:30pm by Nengah Kamasan. Meanwhile the Head of Karangasem Search and Rescue (SAR) team, Gusti Ngurah Eka Widnyana said that he has also received a report regarding the incident from fishermen around 3:24pm. “We’ve received the report that the evacuation was successfully managed, and both victims were saved.” Widnyana concluded.

Perhaps he was homesick for Brioni islands, and was trying to swim to Brioni.

“The weather suddenly changed”? How did the Slovenian and his tourist dollar greedy guide not realize that deadly conditions are always a risk during the height of monsoon season? Beach the kayaks, warn the tourists, take away the guides license….if he has one.

Even to do such thing on Slovenian coast in Adriatic sea during bad weather it wouldn’t be a good idea.
