A Swiss tourist holidaying in Bali has been left horrified after stumbling upon the body of a Kiwi man who drowned in his hotel pool.
Adam Bascombe, from Dunedin in New Zealand, was found dead inside the resort swimming pool on Wednesday January 29.
The tourist who found Mr Bascombe’s body reported it to staff, who called in a medical examiner to examine him, local media reported.
Chris Francis, one of Mr Bascombe’s best friends who lives in Bali, created a GiveALittle page to help with costs of repatriating his body.
‘Adam was a man who loved life. He was always full of energy and put others before himself,’ Mr Francis said.
He shared a video of Mr Bascombe goofing around in the tribute post.
‘His infectious laugh and charisma always made those around him feel welcomed… He had an extraordinary ability to look at the positive in any situation.
‘But now we have lost that light from a truly loved human.’
Mr Francis has set a goal of $12,500 to help with the costs and has so far raised $9,000 in just three days.
He pleaded with friends to dig deep for a man ‘who asked for nothing in his life, but left us too early and too tragically.’
The family hope to bury Mr Bascombe in New Zealand.
