New Date Announced For Opening Of Southeast Asia’s Biggest Mall In Bali

A new date has been set for the grand opening of the new ICON Bali shopping mall in Sanur.

The mall, said to be the biggest in Southeast Asia, was initially set to open in March and again in May, but a new date has been set for June.

Shopping Mall in Asia at Evening Time

ICON Bali Mall, as a retail and entertainment village, will now open on the 7th of June 2024. The mall is set to completely change the way tourists experience the beach resort of Sanur. Once a sleepy fishing village, over the last 50 years, Sanur has become Bali’s classic beachside vacation resort.

Family-friendly, home to a great selection of 5-star resorts, and with direct access to Sanur Harbour to connect with iconic destinations like the Nusa Islands and the Gili Islands, Sanur is the perfect easy vacation destination.

Over the last five years Sanur has received millions of dollars of investment and is now its own Special Economic Zone. Sanur will soon welcome tourists not only to the ICON Bali Mall but also to the newly built state-of-the-art Bali International Hospital.

The resort is almost unrecognizable to anyone who visited back in the day. While the finishing touches are underway, tourists can start to get excited about what they will discover at ICON Bali Mall.

The retail and entertainment village has been described as being the new home of the 8 Wonders of Bali. These include a butterfly park, an immersive vertical forest (similar to that at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore), and the slightly confusingly described indoor cultural amphitheater.

ICON Bali say that the cultural ampitheater will be “situated at the west end of Jaje Bali, our amphitheater provides 28 levels of convenient seating area for people to enjoy their food and drinks in a casual setting. This amphitheater is facing the cultural stage that holds Balinese dance performance daily.”

Typically amphitheatre are outdoor, open air theatres, like the amphitheatre at Uluwatu Temple, but all will surely be revealed on the 7th June.

The 8 Wonders of Bali continues not one but two beach clubs, the ICON Beach Gallery and the Jaje Floating Market. The 8 Wonders of Bali are rounded off with the beach sunset laser water show that will be performed on a nightly basis and an edible garden.

The Edible Garden is said to be a place where the team “will grow plants interesting to both Bali residents and tourists such as Balinese kitchen garden, unique fruits available only in tropical countries, and last but not least are the Asian medicinal herbs and roots whose popularity as natural remedy keeps on increasing.”

This concept will be echoed in and around the Bali International Hospital, where an ethnobotanical garden will be established to provide holistic natural medical care alongside Western medical treatments for holistic health and wellness offerings.

The vertical forest is set to be a spectacle to behold. Anton J. Clark from the Bali Landscape Company, who has been pivotal in the design and construction of ICON Bali Mall, said

“When we started our landscape project for ICON BALI, it was only for a one-dimension vertical garden. Then, we kept on challenging the idea of making this four-story vertical garden three-dimensional with internal rooms to be more interesting, informative, and interactive. Visitors can enter, walkthrough, and be entertained with different experiences on every level.”

Escaltors-in-Shopping-Mall

ICON Mall Bali will keep many elements of the new retail and entertainment village under wraps until the grand opening. Little is known about the two beach clubs that will be opened alongside the mall itself.

ICON Bali says, “Not one, but two beach clubs are situated purposely on the beachfront where families and friends can indulge in water activities, great food, music, and vibes. Foot rinse and indoor shower facility are available for guests’ comfort.”

More details about the grand opening will be revealed soon.

For us who were lucky enough to be in Bali way back when, it's only a dream now. Something to sit and tell your grand children about.
