Ubud is one of Bali’s leading destinations, and for good reason. The area shot to international fame when it was featured in the hit movie Eat, Pray, Love, and for more than twenty years, international tourists have been visiting the area in hopes of recreating the magic for themselves. Yet Ubud is so much more than what the movies, and more recently social media, would show you. When planning a vacation in Ubud, first-time tourists need to be aware that the centre of town itself can feel pretty busy.
In fact, during rush hour, Jalan Raya Ubud, aka Ubud High Street, is pretty much gridlocked. But, book a stay just outside the centre of town, not even a kilometre away, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by the lush tropical jungle you traveled halfway around the world to experience.
