Ubud has long been known as the health capital of Bali. This part of Bali has, for over a decade, been popular with health-conscious tourists seeking to deepen their yoga and spiritual practice.

This sparked a wave of new healthy vegetarian restaurants that have now since bloomed into a huge healthy food scene in Ubud.

Where do you even start with all of the incredible healthy food cafes in Ubud?! From Alchemy to Sayuri’s, Zest to Yellow Flower Cafe, a healthy and nourishing meal is only ever a few steps away in Ubud.

Whether seeking a light bite between visiting top attractions, or if you’re in the mood for a big brunch to fuel you throughout the day, Ubud’s healthy eateries have something for everyone and every budget.

It is true that, once upon a time, many healthy dishes were a little bland and unimaginative. Fast forward to today, and nothing could be further from the truth.

Healthy food in Bali, and around the world, has undergone a total revolution. Not only is flavour front and centre, but chefs and cooks across the province are working to bring magic and enchantment to the plate in small and big ways.

Whether following a vegan, vegetarian, keto, paleo, or just eat what feels right kind of diet, there is never any need to worry about going unfed at Ubud’s leading healthy restaurants. Take Sayuri Healing Foods, for example. This eatery is a community hub and loved by both tourists and Ubudians alike. With a different speciality dish served up fresh each day, as well as a varied menu of raw vegan and plant-based dishes, this spot has even the most plant-skeptic eaters ordering second helpings.

The Ruben Sandwich is a real hearty meal, or for something a little lighter, the reshi miso soup is one of the best on any menu in Bali. The cafe’s smoothie menu is seriously impressive and so extensive that tourists could return each day of their Ubud vacation and not finish sampling them all!

While Sayuri Healing Foods is now considered a classic Ubud eatery, the OG healthy food hangout in Ubud is Alchemy.

Now with a cafe in Uluwatu, and its own healing, yoga, and wellness space located opposite its site in Ubud’s Penestanan. Alchemy is a favourite of both omnivores and the strictly plant-based.

Food-At-Market

At Alchemy, the food is not only as locally grown as possible but organic, too. Every element of the restaurant’s operation has been meticulously monitored and improved upon to ensure that the business is as positively impactful for the planet as it is for diners’ health.

The salad bar has been a hit with health-conscious tourists for well over a decade, and the Jackfruit Wrap showcases how local ingredients can be reimagined in new ways to create simple yet innovative dishes that everyone will love.

No list of top healthy restaurants in Ubud would be complete without a mention of Zest. This plant-based eatery is nothing shy of magical.

Attracting both tourists and a loyal group of local Ubudians who drop by sometimes several times a day, Zest is more than a restaurant. Since opening its doors in 2018, this social hub has blossomed into what founders describe as a “plant-powered portal for creative connection, artistic expression & culinary liberation,” and diners really feel that the moment they enter the space.

From sunrise smoothie bowls to creamy overnight oats, the otherworldly breakfast bruschetta to the unbelievably good plant-based pizzas, the flavour combinations, textures, and sensations evoked by a meal at Zest can genuinely be life-changing.

While booking is not essential, it is advised, especially when Zest is hosting community events or during the peak season in Bali.
