The Ubud Food Festival was launched in 2015 by Yayasan Mudra Swari Saraswati.

The Ubud Food Festival (UFF) will showcase Indonesia’s rich culinary traditions globally.

Founded by the same mastermind team as the world-famous Ubud Writers and Readers Festival held every October, the Ubud Food Festival has become one of the most significant events on the island’s calendar.

The Ubud Food Festival “celebrates the finest food that Indonesia has to offer and culinary diversity of the archipelago, helps young Indonesians to improve their skills through masterclasses and cooking demos while providing exciting networking opportunities.”

Limited tickets for the event, workshops, and masterclasses are still available. All weekend, the public will have free access to the food market at Taman Kulinar.

Festival Founder and Director Janet DeNeefe, has shared “With over 100 exciting programs and an equivalent number of talents, it’s clear that our Festival has become the country’s biggest celebration of all things food.”

She adds, “We welcome everyone with an appetite for extraordinary cuisine, inspiring stories, and thrilling food adventures. Indonesian food, particularly its street food, is world-class, and its culinary legacies, icons, and rising stars are now on the world’s stage. You’d better arrive hungry when we see you this weekend.”

This weekend will be a big weekend indeed for Ni Wayan Murni, who has been named recipient of the 2024 Festival Lifetime Achievement Award. Murni is the founder of the now world-famous warung in the heart of Ubud. Established in 1974, Murni’s quickly became a renowned refuge for travelers.

Ubud Food Festival says, “Over time, her legacy has expanded with impressive establishments, each reflecting her unwavering commitment to her Balinese heritage.”

DeNeefe says, “Murni’s vision has not only made a lasting impact on Bali’s culinary and hospitality landscape but has also deeply touched countless visitors with her enigmatic warmth and passion for sharing the beauty of her homeland.”

Over the course of just one day, over 100 chefs, culinary icons, restaurateurs, environmental activists, and innovators will descend on Ubud for an action-packed program of ticketed and free events.

From long-table lunches and degustation dinners by the region’s most celebrated chefs to panel discussions, food tours, workshops, masterclasses, free film screenings, and live music, this year’s festival promises to be an extraordinary fiesta packed with phenomenal food and food discussions.

Everyone who will be in Bali, especially in Ubud this weekend, must visit the festival and participate in this incredible event. This is the home of foodies!

Festival attendees include Dr. Drs. I Ketut Suardana, M.Fil.H, Chairman of Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation, Festival Founder & Director, Janet DeNeefe, Festival Ambassador & Putri Indonesia 2022, Laksmi DeNeefe Suardana.

Freddie Salim, the Owner of Silk Bistro and a Sumatran-born chef; Chris Salans, the Founder of Bali Restaurant and Cafe Association; and New Zealand’s award-winning chef Nick Honeyman opened the festival with a press conference at Indus Restaurant.

While the main events are held at the festival grounds, there are dozens of events being held throughout Ubud’s culinary venues. For example, Gdas Bali Health and Wellness Resort will be hosting a workshop on Forgaing and Loloh Making.

The workshop attendees will be guided on a foraging tour of the lush gardens at Gdas Bali Health and Wellness Resort. This will be followed by a class on making the ancient immune-boosting drink loloh, which is crafted from a stunning array of local herbs and leaves.
