Nusa Penida is one of the most popular destinations in Bali right now. The outline island can be reached via a 50-minute fast boat ride from the beach resort of Sanur.
As Nusa Pendia celebrates the return of its annual cultural festival, leaders say they want to see even more promotion of the destination to tourists around the world.
The Nusa Penida Festival opened on 5th October and will run all weekend. The festival returns this year for the first time since before the pandemic and is proving to be bigger and better than ever before.
The Regent of Klungkung attended the first day of the festival and shared his hopes for the future of tourism on the island with the press.
Regent Nyoman Suwirta told reporters, “Six years of the Nusa Penida Festival marks the rapid development of tourism in Nusa Penida. Promotion of Nusa Penida tourism like this should never stop.”
Regent Suwirta sees the cultural festival as another way to help showcase the wonders of Nusa Penida to the world.

The island is best known by travelers for its stunning clifftop visas and glistening azure waters and yet, many tourists do not release the wealth of culture there is to experience on Nusa Penisa.
With kecak performances back on the main island of Bali pulling in more of the crowds, especially in Uluwatu, or even the Barong dances up in Ubud, tourists often overlook the cultural elements that make Nusa Pendia quite so special.

For tourists planning their next trip to Bali, and Nusa Penida, what kinds of promotions can we expect to see from Regent Suwirta and his teams?
All across Bali there is a concerted effort underway to promote sustainable and cultural tourism. This is a directive from the provincial government and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economies.
Tourism leaders in Bali want to see higher quality tourists visiting the island, which by their definition broadly means higher spending and longer stays.
In terms of travel in Nusa Penida, this will look a lot like tourism that supports the fragile marine ecosystem and mangrove forests of the island.
Regent Suwirta confirmed last month that the process of establishing geopark status for Nusa Penida.
This new land protection would be an additional layer of conservation legislation that would complement the existing Bali Bird Sanctuary status that covers Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan and the Nusa Penida Marine Protection Area which safeguards the waters around the three islands.
For nature lovers, Nusa Penida is one of the best places in Bali to explore. The abundant marine life attracted scuba divers, snorkelers, and free divers from all over the world.
It is one of the few places on earth where tourists swim with manta rays and turtles together and when the season is right, the gigantic mola-mola fish too.
We can expect more tourism promotions for nature and cultural experiences in Nusa Penida in the coming months and years.
Leaders will also want to see tourists staying longer in Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.
So far this year, over 2 million tourists have made the trip over from Sanur, but the east majority have done so as part of a day trip.
There are so many gorgeous places to stay in the Nusa Islands that tourists could easily book their whole vacation time in the area.
