The laser light show at Bali’s Jatiluwih Rice Terrace has been canceled for the foreseeable future after a surprise inspection from the Tabanan Regency Civil Police Force, known as Satpol PP.
The laser light show was launched on a trial basis back in December 2024.

The laser light show over the UNESCO World Heritage Jatiluwih Rice Terraces was launched on a trial basis on December 1, 2024.
Speaking at the time of the trial launch the Manager of Jatiluwih Tourism, Jhon Purna told reporters “The presence of this laser light animation attraction can attract tourists to visit the Jatiluwih tourist attraction. It also makes tourists who stay overnight feel at home.”
The laser light show was due to be launched formally on the 15th of February but was postponed. It has now been confirmed that following a visit from the Tabanan Regency Satpol PP, the civil police force, the light show attraction has been canceled.
Purna spoke to reporters earlier this week and explained. “Satpol PP said that it caused a commotion according to reports from the public.” When asked if the show would be relaunched, Purna could not give reporters a definitive answer.
During the trial period, the laser light show started at 6 pm and finished at 8 pm, and Purna gave assurances to the public at the time that the show would not cause disruption to local people, nor impact the working agricultural landscape.
He told reporters back in October “If later there is a problem related to the harvest, we are ready to compensate” adding “If this concept can mature, the show plan will be held for only 2 hours with a duration of 15 minutes per broadcast. With the addition of this new attraction, we want to revive Jatiluwih at night as well as to revive the community’s economy.’
Speaking separately Tabanan Satpol PP Chief I Gede Sukadana emphasized that the laser light attraction was requested to be deactivated because it caused ‘discomfort’ to the public.
He shared “On February 17, we have provided guidance. We acted according to public reports because the laser light caused discomfort.”

This is not the only news to be coming from Bali’s top rice field attraction in recent weeks. Earlier this month Jatiluwih Rice Terraces confirmed that it has developed a new helipad that can be used by VIP tourists.
The helipad is set to formally launch in March 2025, and Jatiwulih has revealed that its commercial partner in the development is SGi Air Bali. The helipad will be available for VIP guests to land directly within the Jatiluwih area, and for tourists who have booked luxury helicopter tours with SGi Air Bali.

Purna told reporters “It will be launched in March 2025. It is currently still a trial and has gone well.” He added, “The helipad location is in Banjar Kesambi, a bit far so it will not affect it.” The notion of developing a helipad had Jatiluwih Rice Terraces has been on the cards for years.
Initial plans were rejected Director of Heritage and Cultural Diplomacy of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture Nadjamuddin Ramly in 2019. Early plans had based the helipad within the Subak Jatiluwih area, at Tempek Besi Kalung.
The new helipad at Banjar Kesambi is located a Banjar Kesambi, a short distance from the working rice terraces.

Jatiluwih Rice Terraces is one of the most popular rice terrace attractions in Bali, along with Tegalalang Rice Terrace outside of Ubud.
Many tourists choose to make a full-day trip out of Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, and couple a tour of the rice paddies with a visit to Tabanan Regency’s other leading attractions, including Tanah Lot Temple and Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest.

A little reality? The cost of staging the laser shows wasn't being covered by increased tourism activity and spending.

What is wrong with these ppl.
Satpol should spend more time stopping trash being thrown into green zone areas and rivers.
Than a short lazer display

@Harry, agreed but a laser show is also a distraction that is not highly needed.

Rumor has it that the Disney Corporation is in negotiations to take over the management of Bali and turn it into a giant theme park. May be competing with Universal Studios and MGM, however. And the Trump organization, which sees its potential as a golf course, could be involved in the bidding as well.

@baliblest, well they are also looking at Gaza as a prime real estate coastal Mediterranean development. It’s a disgrace !! Moving the Palestinians out of Gaza will face international condemnation. Sigh...
