Three Incredible Cultural Festivals Planned Across Bali’s Nusa Penida

Bali’s Klungkung Regency is home to some of the province’s most famous tourism destinations, the most iconic of which is the island of Nusa Penida.

As the region booms in popularity with tourists, leaders are taking the opportunity to create events that showcase the area’s inspiring cultural heritage.

The Head of the Klungkung Tourism Office, Ni Made Sulistiawati, spoke to reporters about three upcoming festivals that the team hopes will showcase the best of Klungkung’s cultural heritage to new audiences.

The Klungkung Royal Festival, the Nusa Pendia Festival, and the Goa Lawah Festival will all be hosted before the end of 2025, and tourists are invited to plan their vacation time accordingly!

Sulistiawati revealed that the Klungkung Royal Festival’s theme for 2025 is “Preserving the Cultural Traditions and History of the Majesty of the Balinese Royal Center”.

The festival will be held from 10th to 11th October 2025 and will feature a jam-packed schedule of events. Program highlights include culinary exhibitions and art competitions, and will all be hosted at the Klungkung Palace, across the Ida Dewa Agung Jambe Square, at Kerta Gosa Temple, and at the eastern intersection of Semarapura City.

The Nusa Penida Festival will be hosted from 23rd to 25th October at Sampan Field, Tanjung Keramitan Beach, and at the Dalem Setra Batununggul Temple Area. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrate the Island Spirit,’ and Sulistiawati confirmed, “As planned, the Indonesian Minister of Tourism will be present to open the event.”

Finally, the Goa Lawah Festival will be held from 21st to 23rd November. As the name suggests, the event will be hosted at the stunning Goa Lawah Temple, on the west side of the temple grounds. Sulistiawati explained, “The tourism agenda will include a cultural parade, in collaboration with the Bali Provincial Tourism Office. The event will be held in the rest area west of Goa Lawah.”

The Klungkung Chief of Police, AKP Alfons WP Letsoin, told reporters that extensive operational and security efforts are in place to ensure that these upcoming events are safe and enjoyable for all attendees. AKP Letsoin shares his hopes that these three festivals will serve as an opportunity for a new demographic of tourists to engage in Klungkung Regency’s cultural heritage.

He noted, “Regarding security, we will coordinate with the Head of Operations and the police chiefs in our ranks to plan, deploy, and arrange personnel. This will ensure that every festival activity proceeds safely, orderly, and conductively.”

Klungjung Regency spans over four of the islands that make up Bali Province. On the main island of Bali, Klungung Regency occupies a small pocket of the southeastern coast, nestled between the black sand beaches of Ginayar Regency and Karangasem Regency. Klungkung Regency is also home to the islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.

Tourists who want to get in on the Indonesian festival action but aren’t able to make it to Bali in October and November should check out the first-ever Soundtuari Festival that is set to be hosted on Bali’s neighboring island of Gili Air from 5th to 8th September 2025.

The festival is proud to be bringing together an incredible lineup of Indonesian artists and international musicians to celebrate life, love, and good vibes on the magical island of Gili Air.

The island, which is technically part of Lombok, can be accessed by one of the regular fast boat services departing from Bali’s Sanur Harbor or Padangbai Harbor.

Simple observation. The growth in non Cultural activities far exceeds the Cultural. Overwhelmingly people come here and elsewhere for an indulgent holiday.

So yet again another cultural event and festival. They're becoming a dime a dozen. Also realize most will be clones/repetitive. Seen one seen them all. When will Bali tourism realise sales success is based on customer demand. Yes tourists come here for the cultural background. But realise it's just that - background - while they get on with the main reasons they came here.
