Bali may be one of the world’s safest major tourism destinations, but that doesn’t stop the Bali Police from taking preventive measures to ensure everyone’s security.

Here at The Bali Sun, we keep a track of where police are patrolling so that tourists always know where to find support on a night out.

Bali’s nightlife scene is thriving. From Canggu to Uluwatu, to good ole’ Kuta and swanky Seminyak. While, for the most part, everyone is out for a good time and looking to create the right kind of trouble, every now and again, violence breaks out, and opportunistic criminals start operating in these top tourism resorts and nightlife areas.

To anticipate and prevent street crime in the increasingly popular resort of Canggu, North Kuta Police have been conducting night patrols over the weekends. The patrols held over the weekend were led by First Inspector Nyoman Sugita, who spoke to reporters about the efforts to prevent crime in busy areas around the tourist vacation hotspot.

First Inspector Sugita shared, “We’re conducting Saturday night patrols in crowded areas, especially tourist areas. We’re conveying public order and security messages to the public and inspecting people and property if we find anything suspicious.”

It is not only in Canggu where police are patrolling at night to help keep the community safe. In Denpasar, officers have also been conducting patrols working to prevent criminal activity, including aggravated theft, vehicle theft, misuse of firearms and sharp weapons, distribution of alcoholic beverages, illegal racing, and other forms of street crime that are more likely to occur on weekend nights.

Speaking to reporters, South Denpasar Police Chief, AKP Agus Adi Apriyoga, shared, “We will continue to be present in the community through patrol activities to maintain a conducive and safe situation.”

The most recent round of patrols in Denpasar focused on Serangan Highway in Serangan Subdistrict and Taman Pancing Highway in Pemogan Village.

A second patrol unit was deployed across Jalan Dewi Sartika, Jalan Diponegoro, and Jalan Gatot Subroto Tengah. Patrols focused on illegal racing, vehicles with noisy exhausts, and motorcycle gang hangouts.

The Denpasar Police Public Relations Chief, First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, told reporters, “This activity is a preventive measure by the police to prevent disturbances to public order and security and to provide a sense of security and comfort to the public who are active at night.”

Report Fast

The Myth: “Police won’t help.” False.

The Reality: They have a solid track record for solving theft if a report is filed immediately.

Tourists traveling to Bali who plan to enjoy the island’s nightlife can head out with confidence that they will have a fun and safe night. There are a few general precautions worth noting.

Tourists are advised to always take a taxi back to their accommodation late at night and avoid walking in dimly lit areas. If using an online taxi app such as Grab or GoJek, it is important to ensure all safety features are activated and used.

Tourists are also reminded that it is safer to leave valuables in the safe provided in their room, suite, or villa, rather than carry expensive material items on nights out.

If walking along the street at night, tourists are reminded to keep their phone concealed, as well as any jewellery, and be mindful of their surroundings.

If a tourist becomes a crime victim, it is important to file a formal police report as quickly as possible.

Contrary to urban myth, Bali Police are pretty hot on investigating crime, especially theft, and have a decent track record of finding and returning stolen items, as well as ensuring justice is served to criminals, provided a report is made in a timely manner.

"Tourists are advised to always take a taxi back to their accommodation late at night and avoid walking in dimly lit areas."

That means having to deal with Bali taxi mafia many places. If a group they should instead rent car/driver that will be on standby at venue.

@Steve bmi,

You're responsible for your own behaviour. If you're pissed and get into the wrong car it's your fault, not the driver who's hunting a fare.

@Exp,

Get a Grab. No need to deal with taxis.

I would not be worried so much about the locals but instead of the foreign agitating and drunk tourists that would cause public nuisance. It’s supposed to be a night of fun that can turn ugly real quick. Whatever behavior they have in their own country is bleeding over into Bali.

@Randy, "Not be worried about the local?". Last time I checked many are avid drinkers and trouble makers. Some are members of 10,000 strong ormas that will happily choose violence. Good luck.
