Police have confirmed that they are investigating a series of noise complaints reported by local people in the Seminyak and Petitenget areas of the island.

Officers from Badung Regency have been following up with nightlife venues in the area to ensure that they are complying with local noise limits in place to help preserve public peace.

Officers from Badung Regency Environment and Hygiene Service (DLHK) visited Imani Rooftop Bar late last week. Decibel readings suggest that the noise level coming from the venue exceeded the limit, with readings reaching 72.5 DB.

Officers were responding to a high number of complaints about the venue that had been reported to the DLHK, Bali Police, and local community security teams.

Officers met with the management team of Imani Rooftop Bar to try and establish a win-win situation for all parties. Speaking to reporters after the meeting the Chairman of Commission II of the Badung DPRD, Gusti Lanang Umbara explained the outcomes.

He said, “We went down again, and I was invited as Chair of Commission 2 to accompany and lead the event because the public reports were so massive.”

Officers not only wanted to follow up on noise complaints but also ensure that the venue was operating with the correct licensing and business permits.

Umbara continued to acknowledge that both tourists and tourism businesses must be allowed to have big parties in order for tourism to thrive in the Seminyak area.

He noted, “This means that we all need [to support] investment in our tourism activities in Badung. But on the other hand, we also want them to comply or follow all the mechanisms with existing regulations in Badung Regency.”

The investigation found that Imani Rooftop Bar does not yet have the correct permits for hosting crowd events on the roof of the building. Umbara explained that a number of other permits were also incomplete, in addition to the noise level violated.

He said, “They never applied for [rooftop] crowd permission because it is never and impossible to get crowd permission from the public.”

Since the rooftop bar is situated in an area of Seminyak that is surrounded by residential buildings and tourism accommodations, Imani management thought that they would never get permission from the community, yet have appeared to host big parties on the roof regardless.

The investigation has concluded that “for that night [of the investigation] we tolerated it and then we gave advice before we took any further action, it was recommended that they stop their activities. [There was] cooperation from the owner who was very understanding too.”

It’s been reported that the bar had asked to have leniency until the end of September in order to get permits in place for hosting the outdoor rooftop crowd events.

However, due to the huge amount of complaints from the community, the request was denied immediately.

Umbara concluded, “With a persuasive approach and long discussions, we finally found a good solution. This is for the good of all of us and we all agree that rooftop activities at Imani will be stopped.”

The bar is closed for the time being, and hints on their social media pages suggest that new ventures will be opening soon.

But it's okay for residential owners dogs to fight and bark all night denying paying tourists a decent night's sleep. It's also okay for young boys to roar around on motorbikes hospitalising tourists (Both of US) plus 3 others we saw in BIMC, and then fleeing the scene of the crime. They seem to have no problems apprehending errant Tourists though.

So the Governor and the minister for tourism want tourism in Bali to be a respectful true cultural experience? Then they talk up and allow an obscene proliferation of beach clubs and noisy venues which have nothing to do with being respectful to the history/culture/locals and tourists hoping for a peaceful cultural stay. Beach clubs and other late night venues only cater for the vacuous vanity of to many of the visiting 20-35 age range tinder crowd.
