Ubud is best known for its verdant tropical jungles and vast expanses of rice terraces.

While hotels located in the heart of Ubud are surrounded by oasis gardens, resorts located just outside the arts and cultural capital often offer riverside views and total seclusion from the world.

In 2025, Ubud is set to welcome a new river resort to the family. The highly regarded Sudamala Hotel Group has laid the first stone for their first property in the Bali heartlands.

The group already have stunning resorts in Sanur, and the Amed Lodge too. The company has established luxury retreat in Senggigi, Komodo and Seraya too.

Introducing a resort in Ubud is a smart and natural next step for Sudamala.

With the three properties in Bali and three properties scattered around the Indonesian archipelago, guests can book with one hotel family and be looked after seamlessly from start to finish, no matter where their adventures take them.

Speaking at the laying of the first stone ceremony, the CEO of Sudamala Resorts, Ben Subrata, explained “We are targeting completion in 2025.”

Subarta revealed, “Ubud plays a critical role in the tourism industry. Resorts are an indispensable element of travel needs. Ubud is rich in traditions, culture, and natural beauty, which attract both local and international tourists.”

He added, “The infrastructure development and economic growth carried out by the Gianyar Regency government have encouraged us at Sudamala Resorts Group, which has been successful in Sanur, Amed, Senggigi – Lombok, Labuan Bajo & Seraya – Flores, to contribute to the progress of tourism in Ubud.”

“The preservation of nature and scenic beauty are our reasons for expanding our business, particularly in the hospitality and tourism industry in Ubud.”

The COO of the Sudamala Resorts Group, Ricky Putra, and that the Sudamala Ubud will be a small, luxury, boutique hotel, noting “The thing that is sustainable and the strongest is promoting local experience. Tourists now don’t want to stay in one place, they tend to wander around.”

“Moving to islands or destinations. We will collaborate on package concepts. So it’s like one-stop shopping. We will offer it.”

Putra went on to explain, “We have echoed the local strategy of sustainable culture and wellness. And we have implemented it, such as in the room there is no plastic, including all wooden toothbrushes.”

“This is a contribution from small steps and provides sustainability in the future. Sorting waste and so on.”
