Travel to and from Bali is about to get easier and more affordable than ever. Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has just confirmed that at least 14 new flight routes will be added to the schedule in 2025.

This new range of international and domestic services creates a wealth of new travel opportunities for tourists.

The President Director of Injourney Airport, Faik Fahmi, told reporters, “The addition of this route is part of the strategy to increase air connectivity and support the growth of the tourism and economic sectors in Bali and Indonesia in general.”

Fahmi revealed that the new international services will connect Denpasar with Bangalore, India, Canberra, Australia, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Moscow, Russia, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Phuket, Thailand, Busan, South Korea, and Shanghai, China.

The new domestic routes will include Sorong in Papua, Lampung in South Sumatra, Berau East Kalimantan, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, Palembang in South Sumatra, and Pontianak in West Kalimantan.

This is an exciting time for international tourists who want to explore more of what Indonesia has to offer as a travel destination.

These new and increased domestic flight connections mean that in 2025 and beyond Bali can act as a launchpad for tourists wishing to experience the rich culture and world-class hospitality of Bali and broaden their horizons to what the world’s most diverse archipelago has to offer.

At present, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport serves 65 flight routes, consisting of 25 domestic routes and 40 international routes. With the addition of these 14 new routes, that figure will increase to 79 flight routes. This airport is also a base for 54 airlines, with 12 operating domestically and 42 running international services.

Fahmi told reporters, “With the increase in flight routes and better slot arrangements, the capacity of Ngurah Rai Airport will be larger, so it is expected to encourage the growth of the number of passengers to exceed 22 percent in 2025.”

The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab revealed that the new Bangalore-Bali service served by IndiGo Air airline is already operational. He confirmed that the airport management team is still in the finalization stage regarding the scheduling of other routes.

He noted, “For the Russian or Moscow route, it is served by Aeroflot, Abu Dhabi by Eitihad, Kota Kinabalu and Phuket by Indonesia Air Asia, Busan by Airbusan, and Shanghai is Garuda Indonesia.”

2025 is set to be another record-breaking year for Bali Airport. In 2024 Ngurah Rai Airport served 23.9 million passenger journeys, comprised of 13.9 million international passenger movements and 10 million domestic passenger journeys.

Bali is targeting to attract 6.5 million international tourists, with an upper limit of 7 million foreign arrivals. With this in mind, Bali Airport is about to be busier than ever, but thankfully a series of improvements and upgrades are in place to help keep tourists traveling smoothly on arrival and departure.

Earlier this week Fahmi also confirmed that Bali Airport will follow in the footsteps of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport and will receive upgrades to its security checking system in the form of automated tray return systems at security checking areas across the terminals.

Fahmi explained “If we use the existing equipment, we can only serve 200 people in one hour, but with ATRS (automated tray return systems) we can serve 500 people in one hour. The difference is in the new technology it is no longer required for people to carry bags, take out their laptops, or mineral water.”

The new security checking system comes in addition to 90 new autogates that were installed at the international arrivals and departures terminals in 2024.

These autogates streamline the immigration process and reduce checking times for e-visa holders and Indonesian passport holders to just 23-30 seconds.
