New flight routes have opened up at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, making the transport hub more connected than ever.

The overall mission by leaders in Bali is to make the province not only a top destination, but also a launchpad for travel across the country and the surrounding region.

Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has welcomed not one but two new flight routes to the schedule in the last month. The first is a new daily flight between Mumbai and Denpasar, the second a low-cost route between Australia’s Newcastle and Denpasar.

The new service between Newcastle and Denpasar is the first of its kind, opening up a world of new travel opportunities for Australians, Indonesians, and global jetsetters.

Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, told reporters, “For the first time, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is connected to the city of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. This route further expands access for Australian tourists to directly enjoy the beauty of Bali without having to transit in another city.”

The service, operated by Jetstar, now operates three times weekly on flight code JQ 89, with the inbound Bali flight departing Newcastle on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, taking off at 9.30 am and landing in Bali at 1.05 pm. Flights depart on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, taking off from Denpasar at 10.20 pm and landing in Newcastle at 7.15 am the following morning.

The arrival of the new Newcastle-Bali flight from Jetstar now makes Australia more connected to Bali than ever. It is now possible to fly directly between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns, Darwin, Perth, the Gold Coast, and Newcastle. This incidentally makes Australia the most connected destination to Ngruah Rai International.

The new direct daily service between Mumbai and Denpasar is proving to be a hit with tourists and business travelers. Just three weeks into the new service, passengers are pleased with the improved access between the two majority Hindu regions.

Speaking to reporters, Shahab shared, “We welcome the arrival of IndiGo Airlines, which now offers direct access from Mumbai to Bali. This route not only expands the international flight network at Ngurah Rai Airport but also strengthens tourism and economic ties between the two countries.”

The daily service, operated by IndiGo Airlines, is the third service to be operated by the company. It is now easier than ever to travel between Bali and India, with routes to Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru, all served by IndiGo Airlines and Air India.

Over the last five years, there has been an increasing interest in Bali as a travel destination by Indian tourists.

Indonesia has been working to improve connectivity between the two nations, and this latest flight service, being launched as a daily route straight away, is once again proof that demand for travel to Bali is not expected to slow down any time soon.

In fact, in the first nine months of 2025, 438,646 tourists from India were recorded entering through Ngurah Rai Airport, an 8% increase compared to 2024. This makes Indian nationals the third most frequent arrivals to Bali, after Australians and Chinese tourists.

The new route is also great news for tourists exploring Asia on a multi-stop adventure. Not only does the Mumbai-Denpasar route offer direct access to the Island of the Gods, but it also cuts down travel time and ticket costs.

Shahab has confirmed that Ngurah Rai Airport currently serves 58 flight routes,  of which 37 routes are international and 21 are domestic. “As Ngurah Rai Airport continues to expand, we are committed to providing excellent service to all airport users and fully supporting the growth of the tourism sector in Bali.”
