A man has been sentenced to 8 months of imprisonment for faking his wife’s death in order to marry another woman.
The Judge, Putu Ayu Sudariasih, has officially stated that a 56-year-old man named Suraji was charged with eight months of imprisonment for violating Article 263 Number 2 and Article 264 Number 2 of the Criminal Law Book by faking the death of his wife to marry another woman.
“The suspect has been sentenced with eight months imprisonment to be held responsible for what he has done,” Sudariasih said during a virtual trial on Tuesday (25/1).
The suspect was arrested for creating a fake death certificate for his wife and a new fake ID for himself to marry a woman named Hernanik on August 30th 2019.
The suspect’s wife, Diah, discovered her husband’s affair and illegal activity and decided to report to the police department.
The sentence that the suspect received was lower than the demand from the Prosecutor, who wanted him to be charged with ten months of imprisonment. “The suspect pleaded guilty during the trial and didn’t have a prior criminal record, so I decided to reduce his sentence,” Sudariasih concluded.
During the interrogation, the suspect mentioned that a fugitive named Anwar helped him fake the documents for USD $280 (IDR 4 million).
