A 26-year-old man named Muhammad Defri Suhairi Hermanto from Banyuwangi, East Java has been arrested after stealing a safe-deposit box from a villa in North Kuta.
The Head of the Badung Police Department, AKBP Roby Septiadi confirmed that the suspect was arrested after breaking into a villa and stealing a safe-deposit box from a villa called Sunset Glow that is located on Jalan Tegal Cupek II Number 16A, Kerobokan North Kuta. “The suspect was arrested for stealing valuable items such as cash and jewelry worth around USD 21,000 (IDR 300 million) from the villa.” AKBP Roby said during a press conference on Tuesday (22/6).
The investigation started when a British national named Simon Andrew Crowe (aged 56) filed a report regarding the incident that occurred at his villa while he was out of town. The incident occurred when a witness named Jumaitun who has been working at the villa realized that the victim’s safe-deposit box went missing when she was cleaning up their room on Sunday morning (20/6). “When Jumaitun realized that the deposit box went missing on Sunday morning around 10:15am, she immediately made a phone call with Simon’s wife to inform them.” AKBP Roby added.
The victim was informed regarding the incident when he and his wife were on their way home from Surabaya, East Java. After collecting information from CCTV cameras around the area, the suspect was identified and arrested from his place on Jalan Muding Batu Sanghyang, North Kuta on Monday (20/6) around 3:00am. Apparently, The suspect who has been working as a construction worker used to work for the victim. During the interrogation, the suspect admitted that he broke into the villa by climbing the fence in order to gain access into the bedroom before stealing valuable items inside. “The suspect has been detained along with the stolen items such as a gold necklace, USD 2,200 (IDR 31,4 million) cash, a bag, a valuable stone and a motorbike. The investigation is still underway.” AKBP Roby concluded.

We had this problem a lot in Fiji with the natives constantly jumping the fences and thieving everything….including your shoes in the porch…and anything else that which had been thought to be nailed down. There’s more thievery in Bali by the day.

@J West, no need to compare with Fiji please. This is a random roberry because of this pandemic turning some people into seasonal thieves. I am sure in Thailand, thefts are more common during this uncertain time.
