A 36-year-old man named Trisno Basuki (Tedi) from Mojokerto, East Java has been arrested by Bali police officers after snatching an iPhone from a German national in the Kuta area.
The Head of the Kuta Police Department, Kombol I Nyoman Gatra confirmed that the investigation regarding this case started after the officer received a report from a 26-year-old expat woman named Melina Witzgmann from Germany regarding the incident that happened to her. “The German woman filed a report to the police station that her phone was snatched by a stranger in Legian, Kuta.” Kompol Gatra said on Sunday evening (23/5).
The incident occured when the victim was riding a motorbike with her friend on Wednesday evening (19/5) on Jalan Legian, Kuta. Shortly after, a man who rode a Yamaha Nmax suddenly approached them to steal her iPhone 12 Pro Max and fled on his motorbike. The victim attempted to chase the suspect, but unfortunately he managed to get away. “Melina also attempted to track her phone but unfortunately the signal was already being blocked.” Kompol Gatra added. After several days of investigation, the officers received some information that led them to the location of the cell phone.
They found the phone at one of the cell phone stores on Jalan Hayam Wuruk in Denpasar as the suspect attempted to unlock the iPhone. Trisno was finally arrested from his house located on Jalan Pakisaji Gang Buana Agung III Number 24, East Denpasar on Sunday (23/5). According to the interrogation, the suspect admitted that he’s been doing this activity in 5 different locations in the Badung area. “The suspect has been doing this activity in 5 different locations using his brand new motorbike. And now he’s being detained for further investigation.” Kompol Gatra concluded.
