A 30-year-old man named Tito Arianto Wibowo has been arrested for illegally using a credit card that was mistakenly left by a South Korean national.
The Head of the Denpasar Police Department, Kombes Pol Jansen Avitus Panjaitan confirmed that the suspect who has been working as a sales manager at one of the shopping malls in Denpasar was arrested for illegally using a credit card that belongs to a 59-year-old South Korean national named Soonil Park, causing the victim to lose thousands of dollars from the incident.
The incident occurred, when the victim went to ‘Trans Studio Mall’ that is located on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Denpasar on Tuesday (5/10) to buy a towel. After paying the cashier with his credit card, Soonil had mistakenly left his card and went back home. Several days later when Soonil wanted to make a payment at one of the restaurants in Denpasar, he realized that his credit card was gone.
When Soonil called his bank to cancel his card, he was shocked as the bank’s customer service officer informed him that somebody had spent a total of USD 2,750 (IDR 39 million) using his credit card, so he reported the incident to the police.
“The suspect used Soonil’s credit card for buying several items including electronic devices.” Kombes Pol Jansen said on Tuesday (2/11).
The suspect was finally identified and arrested from his workplace at Trans Studio Mall without resistance. During the interrogation, he admitted that he had used the credit card to buy a television, 2 cellphones, 2 water dispensers, a fan, and several baby supplies. Wibowo has been detained at the police department’s holding cell and will potentially face 5 years of imprisonment.
