The Head of Denpasar Criminal Investigation Bureau, Kompol Mikael Hutabarat, confirmed that the suspect was arrested from his place in Jalan Bung Tomo Pemecutan, North Denpasar after hitting his neighbor’s children on Tuesday (19/4).

The police officers detained the suspect after receiving a report about the incident the day before on Monday evening (18/4).

Prior to the incident, one of the victims with the initials MS (age 9) was playing with his friends in front of Opa’s place on Monday. Opa, who was at the location carrying a liquor bottle, suddenly punched MS when he argued with his friends. When the brother of MS (age 14) heard his brother crying, he immediately warned the suspect to stop hurting MS.

Instead of apologizing, the suspect also punched S in the head, causing injury to both victims. The victims’ mother, with the initials ND, was angered by the suspect’s behavior and filed a report to the police station on Monday evening.

The officers detained the suspect the following day. “The suspect was detained for further investigation as he has violated the Indonesian Child Protection Constitution and will potentially face 3.5 years imprisonment,” Kompol Mikael said.

Despite feeling sorry for the suspect’s family situation as Opa’s wife was recently arrested for stealing a cellphone, ND will continue her lawsuit against the suspect. “I have forgiven his behavior but I will still file a lawsuit against him to make him regret it,” ND said.
