A 42-year-old man named Busairi (a.k.a. Kasper) from Pegayaman Village has been arrested for motorbike theft and employing a minor while operating.
The Head of the Sukasada Police Department, Kompol Made Agus Dwi Wirawan, confirmed that the suspect is a repeat offender with a similar case. He was previously arrested for stealing motorbikes with a 16-year-old who helped him commit crimes in Bali.
“Kasper used the minor to steal three motorbikes that belonged to farmers in different areas,” Kompol Wirawan said on Monday (10/1). The police only managed to find evidence on one of the three motorbikes, with registration DK 2669 ACR. The suspects sold the other two to a fence identified as Lemod from Sidatapa.
The suspects admitted that they have been operating since November 2021. Their targets were primarily farmers who left their motorbikes on the side road when they worked on their farms.
“Kasper usually told the kid to hijack the vehicles before bringing them to him,” Wirawan added. Each motorbike was sold to the fence for USD $70 (IDR 1 million), and Kasper shared half of the profit to the minor.
Kasper has already been jailed three times in Singaraja Prison for similar cases. He was arrested for the fourth time in Sambangan on Friday (7/1) and will potentially face five years of imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the underage suspect was detained at Sukasada Police Department. “We’ve been communicating with the Denpasar Penitentiary concerning the underage suspect. His parents gave him up as he ignored all their advice,” Kompol Wirawan concluded.
