Locals Cause Riot After Breaking New Year’s Celebration Protocols In Bali

A brawl between locals and officials broke out on new year’s eve in Denpasar after security attempted to shut down a party occurring past midnight.

As per the Governor’s decree, New Year’s Eve celebrations were prohibited during the pandemic.

The incident occurred as a group of 20 locals from East Nusa (NTT) were gathered in a boarding house located on Jalan Batas Dukuh Sari Gang, South Denpasar to celebrate the new year.

Upon receiving a report from nearby residents, officials from Community Protection (Linmas) arrived to warn and disperse the crowd.

The situation got heated as the locals aggressively refused orders and started a riot.

Rocks were allegedly thrown at officials, causing physical altercations between the two groups.

“One of the officials was hurt from the incident last night” said a witness at the scene.

The Head of South Denpasar Criminal Investigation Bureau, AKP Hadimastika, said that four locals were injured and rushed to the hospital for medical assistance.

Police and military were called to mitigate further escalation.

“The police and military arrived at the scene to make arrests and control the angry villagers,” Hadimastika concluded.
