Preparations are on track for the IFSC Climbing World Cup, which will be held in Bali’s Nusa Dua from May 2nd to 4th, 2025.

The event in Nusa Dua is part of a three-part Asian tour series for the sport, which will also see events held in China’s Keqiao and Wujiang.

Nusa Dua is best known for being Bali’s most luxurious tourist resort. The area is home to Bali’s highest concentration of 5-star hotels and is no stranger to hosting international events and global conferences.

In 2022, for example, Nusa Dua hosted the G20 Summit and welcomed world leaders, heads of state, and delegations from the world’s twenty biggest economies and beyond.

In May Nusa Dua will once again host a global event, this time in the sporting arena. Climbing of any kind, whether it be speed climbing, bouldering or lead climbing is growing massively in popularity in Indonesia, and around the world.

Bali’s hosting of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Climbing World Cup will mark the third time Indonesia has hosted a world climbing series event, and this year is set to be bigger than ever.

Speaking to reporters the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of IFSC Climbing World Cup Inspector General of Police Herry Heryawan, spoke with reporters as the final preparations are being put in place for the event. He shared how the event is not only important for the sport but also for Bali to position itself amongst global leaders as a sports travel destination.

Heryawan told reporters “With the beautiful background of Peninsula Island, Nusa Dua, we not only present the action of the world’s best athletes but also an unforgettable sports tourism experience. This is a rare moment, sports, culture, and tourism meet in one big celebration.” He called for everyone in Bali and across Indonesia to rally around support for the Indonesian athletes who will be competing at the IFSC Climbing World Cup next week.

The Event Director of IFSC World Cup Bali 2025, Robertus Robet, confirms that the construction of competition-grade rock climbing walls is 80-90% complete and all operational and infrastructural plans remain on track and ready for the competition to kick off on the 2nd May. Robet shared “This process is carried out while maintaining international standards for the comfort and safety of the athletes and spectators.”

He added, “In addition to the exotic and iconic venue location in Bali, it is expected to raise national sports achievements and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leading destination in world sport tourism.”

Leaders in Nusa Dua are on a mission to continue to diversify what the resort can offer in terms of tourism.

The resort is best known for its ultra-luxurious, world-class hotels, like The Apurva Kempinski, The Laguna, and The St. Regis Bali Resort, yet, luxury travel in Nusa Dua is really the tip of the iceberg.

Back in February 2025 the General Manager of The Nusa Dua (ITDC), Made Agus Dwiatmika, confirmed that the ITDC will be working to open up the resort to welcome more surfers to the area. Though Nusa Dua is famous for its calm shorelines and vast expanses of perfect white sand, the surf of this stretch of the Bukit Peninsula is world-class. He confirmed that The Nusa Dua is a top surfing destination in Bali.
