Increased Connectivity At Bali Airport Improves Travelers’ Itinerary Options In 2026

Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is continually evolving to improve both connectivity and service for passengers.

InJourney Airports, the company responsible for Bali Airport, has confirmed that in the first quarter of 2026, the airport increased its connectivity to both domestic and international destinations, ensuring that Bali remains a globally competitive travel destination.

InJourney Airports, formally known as PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, oversees 37 airports across Indonesia, including Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

The company’s President Director, Mohammad R. Pahlevi, has confirmed that between January and April 2026, 53 new flight routes were launched to help strengthen national air connectivity and support public mobility, logistics, and boost the tourism sector. Key new routes were launched from Bali and from Surabaya.

Pahlevi confirmed that this is a 15 percent increase in new flight services compared to the same period in 2025, which saw the addition of 46 routes. These new routes include previously unserved routes and additional airline services on existing routes. He explained, “An example of a route that has never been operated before is Sam Ratulangi Airport Manado-Naha Tahuna Airport, which will now be served by Wings Air starting in May 2026.”

The national carrier Garuda Indonesia will open a new service from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to Mozes Kilangin Airport, Timika, starting in May 2026. Timika is one of the gateways to Papua. A region of Indonesia that is considered seriously off the beaten path, and is gaining more interest with travelers seeking to experience a less explored side of the archipelago.

Pahlevi noted that more routes are to be opening up internationally across Indonesia in the coming months, offering even more connectivity for international visitors and Indonesian travelers.

He highlighted the new T’way Air’s Soekarno-Hatta-Incheon route, which launched on 29th April 2026, Scoot’s Belitung-Singapore route, which will launch in May 2026, and Pontianak-Singapore in June 2026. He also confirmed news from Centrum Air, which will be opening a route from Tasikmalaya in Uzbekistan to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport later this year, alongside Greater Bay Airlines, which is planning to launch a Hong Kong-Juanda International Airport route, Surabaya, in a few months’ time.

Tourists traveling to Bali this month are advised to look out for last-minute domestic travel deals. As the global aviation sector is preparing to mitigate potential issues caused by the conflict in the Middle East’s impact on fuel supplies, Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, has implemented a policy to cut VAT on domestic flights. The policy came into effect on 24th April and will be in place for 60 days.

Minister Limanseto told the media, “The facility applies to tickets purchased and flights taken within 60 days, starting one day after the regulation was enacted.” Adding “The government has prepared mitigation measures to maintain the sustainability of the aviation industry and keep fares affordable, by limiting domestic fare increases to between 9 and 13 percent.”

Though concerns about the global fuel situation are valid, the issue has not yet impacted Bali tourists. In fact, the opposite is true. Travel figures published by I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport last week show that arrival numbers continue to increase.

From January to April 2026, the number of passengers crossing the airport exceeded 4.5 million, which is a more than 10 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, told reporters, “As Bali’s main gateway for international tourists, the quality of immigration services is a crucial factor in supporting the tourism climate in Bali. In recent years, the flow of people crossing the border, both Indonesian citizens and foreigners, has shown a significant upward trend.”

He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Bali Airport remains a safe and efficient travel facility for tourists, and confirmed that improvements will need to be made.

He concluded, “We are also encouraging the optimization of technology-based facilities such as autogates, the Online Indonesia application, and e-visa services to expedite the inspection process and improve convenience for foreign tourists.”
