Firefighters in Bali have battled a blaze that broke out in an iconic Legian Pub.
The Poser Pub and Restaurant on Jalan Padma is one of the most well-known eateries and watering holes in the Legian area, entertaining thousands of tourists every week.
While firefighters have not yet had the opportunity to investigate the cause of the fire, initial reports from those on the scene suggest that an electrical shortcut sparked the blaze.
The Head of the Public Relations Section of the Denpasar Police, AKP I Ketut Sukadi, has confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries in the fire.
The full extent of the damage remains to be seen, but once the fire was brought under control, it was evident from outside the building that much of the restaurant and bar had been destroyed. The material losses will be extensive.
Speaking to reporters, AKP Sukadi explained, “What burned was the building on the first floor, which was intended for pubs and restaurants along with several restaurant types of equipment, while on the second floor, the hotel rooms were still intact.”
He added, “The source of the fire cannot be ascertained, but it is thought to have come from an electrical short circuit, considering that at the time of the incident, the restaurant was still closed, and there was no cooking activity.”
AKP Sukadi revealed that the alarm was raised by the night security guard, who saw smoke billowing from the pub in the early hours of the morning.
Seeing this, the guard immediately called local recalling, who rallied together to help put the fire out with fire extinguishers from the surrounding area while the fire crew and firetruck from Badung Damkar were on the way.
In total five fire trucks were called to the scene, and with all hands on deck the mega task of putting out the fire got underway. AKP Sukadi said, “The fire was extinguished at around 08.00 WITA by deploying the Badung Fire Department Unit and the assistance of the Bali Padma Hotel hydrant.”
Access to Legian Beach via Jalan Padma is now reopened; tourists can walk down the street, and vehicles can access the beachfront.
While Poser Pub and Restaurant will be closed in the foreseeable future, all other eateries on Jalan Padma No. 1 will remain open, as will the Padma Legian Hotel.
There are already hopes that the much loved Legian pub will be able to recover material losses and reopen as soon as possible.
Aside from friendly service and the perfect location, tourists loved the huge portion sizes at Posers Pub & Restaurant. It was the kind of place where tourists would nip in for breakfast and end up staying for lunch too, with such a laid-back feel and affordable food and drinks.
Legian is a bright and bustling resort town home to fantastic pubs, cafes, and restaurants. Jalan Padma is one of the most popular streets in Legain for foodies.
With Makan Place located directly opposite Posers, serving up international and Indonesian delights, as well as Fat Bowl, just a few shopfronts down, tourists have plenty of options available.
Fat Bowl is one of the most in-demand restaurants on Jalan Padma Legian, specializing in Asian fare with a strong focus on Japanese food; tourists come back to Fat Bowl day after day while on vacation for a reliably delicious meal just steps away from Bali’s famous Legian Beach.
Legian is proudly home to a few beach clubs of its own. While Seminyak, Uluwatu and Canggu are touted as the destination for beach clubs, don’t go overlooking Legian!
Sitting at the very end of Jalan Padma, Legian, is Azul Beach Club. This stunning bamboo building is home to one of the most unique hangout spots in the whole of Legian. A real must-visit!
