An official of the Denpasar Transportation Agency, Made Sukerata, confirmed that the Denpasar city government plans to resume the weekly Car-Free event in two different locations: Lumintang Park and Renon Park in Denpasar.

“We’ve already inspected all the road barriers in both locations, which were abandoned since the pandemic started over two years ago,” Sukerata said on Friday (25/3).

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Car-Free Day was held every Sunday morning in Lumintang and Renon public parks, where the authorities closed down road access to any vehicles during the event.

Officials initiated to resume the event as Covid-19 cases keep decreasing, resulting in the central government dropping restrictions for public activities.

During the inspection, Sukerata spotted several road barriers that require repair.

“Many of the road barriers at the locations were broken after two years of being abandoned, so we will ask the government for the budget to repair them before they get more corroded,” Sukerata concluded.

Car free day is fine, but the big environmental and health problem is motorbikes including Harleys with "knalpot bronk" (free exhaust) racing around in Bali causing terrible noise and pollution. This is a creeping problem that gov. need to action on including imposing and enforce ban on selling "knalpot bronk".
