Gianyar Regency is home to some of Bali’s most important cultural landmarks and popular heritage tourist attractions.

Not only is Gianyar Regency home to Ubud, the island’s arts and culture capital, but also to stunning spiritual sites like Goa Gajah Cave and Tirta Empul Temple.

In 2026, cultural travel is in high demand, and the trend shows no sign of slowing. Cultural tourism has always been the backbone of the travel experience in Bali, and Gianyar Regency is perhaps home to the highest concentration of cultural wonders for tourists to enjoy.

Officials from the local regency government have been speaking to reporters about the year ahead and are hopeful that increasing demand for cultural tourism in the region will lead to higher revenue from tourism taxes, allowing the offering to continue to evolve and improve.

The Head of the Gianyar Tourism Office, Wayan Gede Sedana Putra, told reporters that he and his teams are targeting IDR 95 billion in tourism tax revenue in 2026, an increase of IDR 5 billion from 2025. This is revenue mostly generated by entry ticket fees at tourist attractions managed by the Gianyar Regency Government, including destinations like Tirta Empul Temple and Goa Gajah Cave.

Putra told reporters, “The 2025 visit and revenue targets have been achieved, with revenues reaching IDR 90 billion and tourist arrivals reaching 4 million.” He confirmed that Tirta Empul Temple and Goa Gajah generate the largest amount of tourism revenue for the regency, welcoming the highest number of both domestic and international tourists.

In 2025, Tirta Empul welcomed 880,000 people, generating IDR 54 billion in tax revenue. Goa Gajah was the second most popular attraction, welcoming 209,966 people and generating IDR 18.5 billion in tax revenue.

There are eight tourism attractions overseen by the Gianyar Regency Government, including Gunung Kawi Sebatu, Gunung Kawi Tampaksiring, Yeh Pulu, Candi Tebing, Mangening, and Goa Garbha. The massively underrated Gunung Kawi is also attracting a slowly increasing number of visitors, welcoming 102,912 tourists in 2025.

Putra explained, “In general, the supporting facilities at the tourist attraction are currently adequate, so there have been no complaints from foreign tourists.”

The intention is to improve the quality of tourism experiences across Ginayar as tourism figures are set to grow this year.

This mission to contribute to improving the overall quality of experiences for tourists visiting top cultural landmarks in Gianyar Regency is on par with the mission of tourism leaders across the island.

Bali has just been named the TripAdvisor Best Destination in the World for 2026, beating top cities like London, Paris, and Bangkok.  While tourism businesses celebrate the collective success, leaders are warning against complacency and are calling for tourism attractions and all those in the travel and hospitality sector to take this accolade as a source of inspiration for continued improvement.

Local politician Wayan Puspa Negara told reporters, “This award should serve as both a wake-up call and an opportunity for a comprehensive overhaul, both in physical and non-physical development, including strengthening tourism services and public relations.” Sentiments that are clearly being echoed by the Gianyar Tourism Office.
