Indonesia’s TransNusa Airlines has just expanded its operations from Bali, the country’s flagship tourism destination.

TransNusa Airlines will be increasing connectivity between Bali and Australia by operating its Denpasar-Perth service two times a day.

Speaking to reporters following the news that the TransNusa Airlines Bali-Perth service will now operate twice a day, the President Director of TransNusa, Bayu Sutanto, explained that the step is in response to the high demand and interest in travel between Indonesia and Western Australia.

Sutanto told reporters, “We see significant growth in passenger traffic between Bali and Perth. We present this frequency addition to provide more flexible and comfortable travel time options for our customers.”

At present, the Bali-Perth service operates once a day, seven days a week. From 2nd July 2025 to 17th July 2025 the twice-daily service will be operational four days a week, and as of 18th July, the service will increase to twice daily, seven days a week.

Sutanto added, “This addition provides more flexibility for tourists and business people who want to travel between these two favorite destinations.” He noted “Tickets for the additional Bali–Perth route could be ordered starting from May 31, 2025, through all TransNusa ticket sales channels, including the official website at www.transnusa.co.id. The ticket price starts from IDR 1,699 million, making it a very competitive choice for international flights.”

Sutanto concluded, “TransNusa is committed to continue to support the growth of the tourism sector and international mobility, by presenting affordable, modern, and trusted aviation services.”

The flight service from Perth to Bali departs from Perth International Airport at 1.55 pm, arriving in Bali at 5.40 pm local time. The return service departs from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International at 9.05 am, touching down in Perth at 12.55 pm.

The second daily service departs from  Perth at 6.05 pm and arrives in Denpasar at 9.50 pm local time. The return service takes off from Bali at 12.55 pm, landing in Perth at 4.55 pm local time.

The announcement of the increased flight services between Australia and Bali comes as no surprise as the vacation island continues to welcome tens of thousands of Australian holidaymakers every month. Australian tourists remain the most frequent international arrivals into Bali and during a recent visit with Bali’s Governor Wayan Koster, the Australian Consul General shared her affection for the island with the provincial leader.

Consul General Jo Stevens told Governor Koster “1.5 million Australian tourists visited Bali in 2024, and that is the highest number in history, so I think our people are very happy and really enjoying Bali.”

Adding “Bali is a special place for our people.” Stevens concluded, “We always emphasize to our residents what they can and what they cannot do.”

“There are rules that we show and emphasize to them to behave well, respect local culture, and not cause problems for a pleasant holiday.”

However, as Australian holidaymakers are planning their upcoming winter getaways to the island, the Australian Travel Advice Authority, Smartraveller, has just issued a series of new safety guidelines for tourists visiting the region.

In a travel advice update issue last week Smartraveler shared “We’ve reviewed our advice for Indonesia and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution.”

Noting “Australians have drowned in coastal areas, due to rough seas and strong rip currents at popular tourist beaches, including in Bali. Many beaches are unpatrolled.”

The travel advice bureau added, “Australians have drowned in coastal areas, due to rough seas and strong rip currents at popular tourist beaches in Bali, Lombok, the Gili Islands, Labuan Bajo, and Raja Ampat. Many beaches are unpatrolled and local beach rescue services may not be of the same standard as in Australia.”

Indonesia’s TransNusa Airlines. Really? China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings Limited (CALC), a subsidiary of China Everbright Group, controls Transnusa airline with a 49% stake. So maybe 1/2 Indonesian at best.

February 2023, the airline purchased an aircraft made by a Chinese company, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd (COMAC). Looks like the Chinese already running the show.

TransNusa lacks the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certification. Airlines on the IOSA registry consistently outperform non-registered counterparts in safety metrics.

Another factor to consider is the age of TransNusa’s fleet. Their Airbus A320s average nearly 19 years, and the A321s over 20 years.

Looks Australian aviation authorities has a very low bar these days or maybe sleeping at the wheel?
