Bali’s Kintamani is a must-visit area of the island. Located in the central highlands, Kintamani is the gateway to Mount Batur, Lake Batur, and some of the island’s best coffee roasteries.
It is a little-known fact that tourists must pay to enter the area.

For visitors entering the Kintamani tourist area, there is an entry fee. This is a little-known toll for all tourists, both domestic and international.
There are several payment posts at the main entry points to the community, and there are formal payment counters too. The payment point at the Geopark Gate at the entrance to Penelokan Village is the busiest post.
Since this entry fee is known to so few tourists, it is very often the case that tourists fear that they are being scammed, especially if they enter through one of the less busy gates. While these payment posts are formalised, and often watched over by local pecalang security and sometimes even traffic police, many tourists are still suspicious.
Over the years, it has also not helped suspicions that tourists have not been given a branded receipt for their payment. While tourists are issued a proof of payment, there was no official government or tourism office branding or logos on the bill. The payment is IDR 50,000 for international tourists and IDR 30,000 for children and is gathered by the Bangli Regency Tourism and Culture Office.
The Head of the Bangli Regency Tourism and Culture Office, Wayan Dirgayusa, told reporters that from now onwards, tourists will be issued with an e-ticket as proof of payment, and that these e-tickets will have official branding on them. Dirgayusa explained, “Previously, the ticket didn’t have the tagline, ‘the original of Bali,’ and there was no destination link. As of the 17th August, it was updated to meet tourist expectations.”
Dirgayusa is hopeful that this update will not only serve as peace of mind for tourists but also make the ticket a clearer form of proof of payment and act as a promotional tool. Now issued with Bangli Regency Tourism Office branding, Dirgayusa hopes that tourists will gain a greater understanding of what the region has to offer.
He confirmed that the Bangli Regency Tourism and Culture Office currently oversees two main destinations, firstly the Kintamani Touristic Area and Penglirpuran Village.
There are hopes that the agency will be able to offer a payment system and solutions to more of the area’s tourism attractions soon. Dirgayusa concluded, “We are preparing for that.”

The entry fee for Kintmani is a kind of tourism destination tax or toll. The fee does not grant entry to any other attractions, landmarks, landscapes, or destinations in the area.
Those wishing to explore the Geopark Museum, for example, must pay an additional entry fee, and those wishing to hike Mount Batur must also pay hiking fees in addition to tour guiding fees.

Kintamani has seen a huge amount of investment in tourism development and infrastructure over the last five years. Once only passed through by tourists on their way to the trailheads of Mount Batur, Kintamani is now very much a destination in its own right.
Kintamani is a destination best explored over 2-3 nights, and with plenty of incredible new accommodation options available, tourists are surely finding themselves wishing they could extend their stays.
Glamping is one of the most popular accommodation styles in Kintamani, and these camps are seriously luxurious.

From safari tents, to bubble cabins, to cosy chalets, to ultra modern eco-living tiny homes, there is so much choice in Kintamani, and affordability too!
Glamping stays start from as little as USD 20 per night and offer guests sunrise views of Mount Batur right from their bed…who needs to hike when you can stay snuggled up for sunrise?!

People already pay a visa for Indonesia. Is kintamani not part of Indonesia? Only lower quality tourists keep going to this country. Scam and ripoff heaven.
