Bali’s Denpasar City is often seen by tourists as exactly that, the city. While Denpasar is a busy urban hub, the city limits also include some of Bali’s leading coastal vacation destinations, including Sanur.
As the low season gets into full swing, hotel managers are celebrating that bookings are slowly on the rise.

The biggest reason why hotel bookings in Bali’s Denpasar are increasing right now is due to the Chinese New Year holidays. While Australian tourists remain the most frequent international arrivals, tourists from China come in a close second place.
This year, Bali will be celebrating the Lunar New Year in style, and there are events happening all around the island’s leading tourism resorts that are open for everyone to take part in, no matter their religion or nationality.
Hotel bookings in Denpasar have increased by 5% in the last week ahead of the Lunar New Year festivities. The Denpasar City chapter of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) has spoken to reporters about what tourists can expect in terms of busyness in the coming week.
The Chairman of PHRI of Denpasar City, Ida Bagus Sidharta Putra, told reporters on Thursday, 12th February, that hotel occupancy during the Chinese New Year period is estimated to reach 70-75%. The majority of these bookings are being made by travelers independently of travel agents, through online booking platforms like Expedia.
Putra explained, “The momentum of the long holiday is quite influential. Currently, there is an increase in bookings of around five percent compared to normal conditions.”
He confirmed that in Sanur, tourist visits are usually dominated by foreign tourists, with around 40% of visitors coming from Europe and 40% from Australia. On average, throughout the year, domestic and Asian tourists usually sit at around 10-15%. However, during festivals and religious holidays such as the Chinese New Year or Eid, the proportion of domestic tourists can increase to around 20 percent.
Putra explained that typically, an increase in hotel occupancy begins five days to a week before the holiday, with peak arrivals estimated to occur two to three days before the Chinese New Year, which falls on February 17th, 2026.
Sanur’s top hotels are offering tourists incredible value for money this low season. Last-minute bookings can see guests secure 5-star stays for less than USD 100 per night. Sanur may be the oldest beach resort in Bali, but it’s also one of the best-maintained. In fact, Sanur’s upgrades have made the iconic destination feel fresher than ever.
From upgrades to sidewalks making the whole area more walkable, to clean-up teams working around the clock to keep the area free from trash and litter, to a crackdown on illegal parking, which helps make the village streets feel more open and free-flowing, Sanur will never let tourists down!

TAP TO REVEALMany of Sanur’s hotels are more than tourism businesses but are essential contributors to the local community. Take the Prama Sanur Beach Resort, for example.
The hotel can boast a more than 70% return rate from its guests, and even helps organise massive community events like last weekend’s Sanur Bali International Half Marathon.

The event featured a 5km, a 10km, and a half-marathon, which is 21km. The route passed through the wonders of Sanur, featuring coastal paths, newly upgraded urban areas, and iconic spots in Bali’s oldest beach resort that showcase the best of the island’s art, culture, and heritage.

With so much happening in both Denpasar City and the region’s coastal hotspots like Sanur and Serangan Island, no matter the time of year, booking a vacation here is always a smart idea.
Here at The Bali Sun, we love the idea of spending a few nights in Sanur before heading over to Nusa Penida or Nusa Lembongan via the fast boat services operating out of Sanur Harbour, to dive even deeper into the relaxing island vibes the province has to offer beach-loving holidaymakers.
