Chinese New Year is a big deal in Bali. Did you know that? Here at The Bali Sun, we love nothing more than celebrating cultural festivals and holidays, and the upcoming Luna New Year celebrations in Bali are set to be nothing shy of wonderful.
Whether you have a personal connection to the Chinese New Year or not, all tourists and community members are being invited to take part in the festivities this year in Bali.
In 2026 will fall, on 17th February which will mark the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse. The last time this energy was felt was 60 years ago!
Although Bali is a predominantly Balinese Hindu province and Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim nation, there is a large Chinese diaspora across Indonesia that practices Chinese Buddhism. In Bali, there is a series of stunning Chinese-Indonesian Buddhist temples dotted across the island that are worth visiting at any time of year, but especially during the Lunar New Year. These include the Dharmayana Temple in Kuta, which dates back to 1876.
The temple always hosts elaborate Luna New Year celebrations throughout the festival, and here at The Bali Sun, we highly encourage tourists to stop by and respectfully observe the celebrations and join in if invited to do so…and you will be. In North Bali, in the old city of Singaraja, Klenteng Ling Gwan Kiong Temple is breathtakingly beautiful and has recently undergone renovations, making the temple complex even brighter and more beautiful than before.
Bali is also becoming an increasingly popular destination for Chinese tourists to go on vacation over the Lunar New Year.
With more direct flights between Bali and China than ever, it’s an increasingly accessible and affordable vacation destination for Chinese tourists, who are the second most frequent vacation arrivals on the island, falling in a close second place to Australian tourists who have long held the title.
Chinese New Year celebrations will be kicking off at Nuanu Creative City in Bali from the 14th February through to the 17th.
Speaking to reporters, Nuanu’s Director of Brand and Communications, Ida Ayu Astari Prada, shared, “We are presenting cultural attractions and performances that are integrated into the space, so that visitors can experience the Chinese New Year celebrations throughout their stay.”
He added, “We are indeed limiting fossil-fueled vehicles in the area to support the environmentally friendly Nuanu concept.”

From the lively rhythm of Barongsai and the powerful Balinese Barong Bangkung, to the quiet grace of a tea ceremony, each tradition invites us to welcome the year with openness and intention.”
On the 14th February, guests of Nuanu can enjoy a tea house exhibition, the Lunar New Year Cultural Show that will be held at the world-famous Earth Sentinels statues. Events will also be held in the immersive Labrynith Dome, offering a multisensory cultural experience for all involved.
It is highly recommended to book tickets in advance as events at Nuanu tend to sell out. International tickets start at IDR 150,000 and include access to all public areas and Barongsai, Barong Bangkung, Lunar New Year Showcase, and Tea Art Exhibition.
Additional tickets must be purchased for Ancient Sound Healing with Gong Bath and Tibetan Bowls by Roba Grow on the 15th February, as well as DRIPPIN: Tea Art & HipHop Performance by CulCha Collective. The events within the Labrinth Dome are also charged extra, and tickets are available via the Nuanu website, with discounts available for KITAS/KITAP Holders and Indonesian citizens.
