Tourists heading to Bali this peak season can book their fast boat trips to the outlying islands with greater peace of mind.

Travelers departing on fast boats from Sanur can now have their trip covered by Jasindo Travel Insurance, which has partnered with Sanur Harbor to create a safer travel experience for all.

Over the years here at The Bali Sun we have had to report on more fast boat tragedies than we would have liked. From capsizing to sinking, Bali’s fast boats have a troubled reputation.

Though things have improved over the last few years, the sector has been under pressure to improve safety standards for travelers and crew. These incidents have resulted in the death of tourists on vacation and served as an alarm call for boat operators to make impactful changes.

Through a new partnership Jasindo Insurance in collaboration with PT Mitra Kasih Perkasa (MKP) wiil insure the safety and comfort of maritime travelers in Bali.

Sanur Harbour is the busiest tourist port in Bali Provice and is the transit hub of choice for hundreds of thousands of passengers annually, traveling between Bali, Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, Lombok and the Gili Islands.

As of this month, tourists can now purchase ship tickets and obtain travel insurance protection directly through the MKP Lounge service in the Sanur Matahari Terbit Harbor area.

Speaking to reporters Jasindo Insurance Company Secretary, Brellian Gema, said the service is part of the company’s efforts to provide closer and more accessible protection to the public. Gema explained, “With a simple process and very affordable prices, domestic and international tourists can be protected immediately, even before boarding the ship.”

Insurance premiums are available starting from IDR 17,500 per person with travel protection for 1 x 24 hours and coverage value of up to IDR 250 million.

The policy protection includes emergency medical risks, accident benefits, extreme activity protection, loss of baggage and personal belongings, and compensation for travel delays. Premium policies also includes benefits available for travel reimbursement, ticket or hotel cancellations, and protection if tourists have to shorten their trip or return home early due to certain conditions.

Gema dded “These various benefits are designed to provide a sense of security for travelers from before departure until the end of the trip.”

He shared “Through the MKP Lounge, we want to provide a seamless travel experience with more modern and reliable service standards.”

Representative Manager of Asuransi Jasindo Denpasar Branch, Erwin Arys Sasongko, told reporters that tourists travel styles now demand fast and flexible protection services. He explained “Through our collaboration with PT MKP, tourists can receive instant protection even before departure. A pleasant journey must be accompanied by a sense of security. We want to be a part of every one of those journey.”

The add-on insurance policy does not negate the need for tourist, holidaymakers and travellers heading to Bali to take out a fully comprehensive travel and medical insurance policy prior to traveling to Indonesia.

Tourists must make sure they understand how to make a claim in the event of an emergency and the all policy documents fully before traveling to Bali. It is important to understand what each insurance policy covers.

Many tourists traveling to Bali find out too late that many popular activities, including maritime tourism activities like snorkelling, diving and boat trips are not covered by standard travel issuance policies. Many policies require additional cover packages for ‘extreme’ sport or multi-stop vacations for example.

Good idea. In Australia public liability insurance is obligatory and the premium is built in to the price of goods and services. R17,500 a day for R250,000 juta cover is cheap

yeh travel insurance will really help me when the clown driving the boat flips it and I'm drowning, have you seen the way some of these guys drive these fastboats, many are reckless and it doesn't seem as if they are held to account for accidents caused by incompetent skills and complete disregard for passenger safety

@Peter, Yeah, and if you are luck and survive the rollover, the insurance claim procedure and outcome will be a disappointment.
