Tourists looking for a truly untouched natural landscape in Bali should look no further than Buyan Lake.
Better known to tourists as one of the Twin Lakes sitting just above the central highlands of Bedugul, Buyan Lake is an untouched oasis in the crisp, cool elevations at the gateway to northern Bali.

For many, Bali is all about salt water! As an island home to some of the world’s most famous beaches, saltwater lovers are in paradise in Bali. Yet, there is plenty to explore for those who fancy a freshwater feel. What’s more, these freshwater hideaways are often found a little off-path.
Take Lake Batur for example, while Kintamani soars in popularity and Mount Batur continues to welcome hundreds of trekkers onto her slopes every day, Lake Batur seeks marked fewer visitors. If you’re planning a visit to Kintamani or to hike Mount Batur for sunrise, be sure to leave time to enjoy a relaxed walk around a stretch of Lake Batur, you won’t regret it!
@asquared823 The Twin Lakes viewpoint panoramic view is just mindblowing! This stop in the mountains offers a nice view of Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan. The nice thing is at the entrance, there are different animals and reptiles you can take photos with. #bali #balitiktok #balitravel #travel #traveltiktok #tiktokcanada #couple #views #viewpoint #lakes #water #fyp #foryoupage ♬ Akon's Beautiful Day – Akon
If you’re looking for a complete retreat free from any risk of crowds, traffic, or building developments, then Lake Buyan and the Twin Lakes area are for you. The Twin Lakes were given their name because they sit so close to one another. Lake Buyan is the larger of the two and is connected to its ‘brother’ Lake Tamblingan via a narrow canal called Telaga Aya.
The lakes are surrounded by dense tropical forest, but due to the elevation of the Bedugul area, the humidity that can feel stifling at lower elevations brings with it a coolness and freshness that is ideal for those seeking some clear air and crowd-free relaxation.

For those who want to soak up the tranquility of Lake Buyan to the absolute max, it is possible to camp by the lake’s shores.
The unfussy campsite is the hangout of choice for Bali’s adventure and outdoor community. It is the perfect place to meet like-minded nature lovers and embark on new off-path missions.
@chadandmiaofficial Discovering the breathtaking Twin Lakes in Bedugul, Bali! 🌿 Located in the cool highlands, these stunning lakes, Buyan and Tamblingan, are surrounded by lush forests and offer some of the most serene views on the island. Perfect for nature lovers and photographers alike. The Lake Buyan campsites offer cheap nighty pitch rates and are safe and quiet. Be sure to bring extra blankets and a few extra jumpers; it gets properly cold around these parts in the late evening and early morning.
Many campsites offer rental of camping equipment, though it is possible to buy all kinds of camping equipment at shops like Eiger, which have outlets in Denpasar, Kuta, and Ubud.

Lake Buyan is one of the best places to go freshwater fishing in Bali. Tourists are advised to chat with campsite managers and local community members about permissions, permits, and fishing fees before casting. If fishing isn’t the name of the game, then foraging might be.
The fertile highlands of Bedugul and the surrounding area are some of the most productive in Bali. Many local families farm everything from flowers to fruits, vegetables, and coffee.

Tourists must remember to bring cash, as card machines are seldom found around these parts. By stopping at street-side fruit and vegetable markets, tourists have the opportunity to snap up the freshest produce around and directly support local farming families.
While Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan are notably less built-up than areas like Canggu, Uluwatu, and Ubud, tourists will be surprised to find everything they need. A visit to the north of Bali showcases a more authentic side of the island.

Whether seeking a hearty Balinese-style dinner at a local warung, needing wood for a campfire, or renting equipment for fishing, camping, or any other kind of adventure, everything tourists could need is ready and waiting for them. Just remember to bring cash, a phrasebook, and a smile!

These lakes are beautiful and crowd free.I live near Singaraja..once you get up the bukit and pass these lakes, the areas are built up and with it comes the crowds, ending up with the gridlock that is Sth Bali. For me these hills are like a giant wall that keeps the masses away😊
