Running is having a moment in Bali…and in fact all over Indonesia. Bali cannot get enough of running right now, and the Provincial Government is hopping on the trend and is organising a series of special run fun events to celebrate 100 Years of Bali Tourism. The first in a series of run events will kick off at none other than the UNESCO World Heritage Jatiluwih Rice Terraces in Tabanan Regency.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster explained, “This agenda is the first step towards welcoming the 100th Anniversary of Bali Tourism in 2027, while also strengthening the promotion of Bali’s leading destinations through a combination of sports, culture, and sustainable tourism.”
The first community-based run event will take place on 20th June 2026 and is open to local residents and tourists. Governor Koster shared, “The Jatiluwih Fun Run should focus on attracting tourists and runners from outside Bali. This needs to be encouraged. I think we could have more participants, 10,000 is possible.”
The fun run will have three race categories: a 5km, a 10km, and a half-marathon around the iconic rice terrace landscape. The event, which will simply be known as the Jatiluwih Fun Run, will be open to both professional and amateur runners. The Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Tourism and Travel Agencies (ASITA), Putu Winastra, told reporters that organisers chose Jatiluwih for its cultural heritage, international fame, safety, and central location.
Winastra explained, “Running has become a global lifestyle. Through this, we want to introduce leading destinations in each district, starting with Jatilwuih. This is not only a sporting event, but also a sustainable, international-level tourism promotion.
He added, “In addition to showcasing the panoramic views of the Jatiluwih rice fields, this event is also designed to support the Bali Provincial Government’s policy of reducing plastic waste and optimising the involvement of local businesses.” Registration for the event will open soon. For more details, fun runners should keep an eye on updates on the Jatilwuih Destination Instagram page.
June and July are looking to be the top months for running enthusiasts to visit Bali this year. While the Jatiluwih Fun Run is set to be hosted on 20th June 2026, the Culture Run Bali 2026 will be hosted on 26th July.
The Culture Run Bali returns to the province in 2026, but in a new location. Organisers have revealed that this year’s race will be hosted on Peninsula Island in Nusa Dua.
Like the Jaitluwih Fun Run, the Culture Run Bali will offer participants the chance to race in a 5km, 10km, and a half-marathon.

Registration is open now, and early bird tickets for the 5km have already sold out. Race organisers have shared “Not just about pace. Not just about distance. This is where energy meets connection. Where every step brings people, stories, and moments together. Get ready for something bigger than just a run. This is your journey.”

The team describes the event as ‘purpose-driven,’ explaining that “Culture Run is a running event for sustainable culture that combines sports, culture, and environmental awareness in one experience. It answers the global challenge to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, with 2026 as a crucial year, leaving only four years to meet the world targets.”
It is now possible to register as an early bird for the 10km. Tickets cost IDR 370,000 per person, which includes a race jersey, bib, string bag, and gifts from the sponsors, as well as race insurance and admin fee.

Tourists traveling to Bali who are planning on attending events like the Bali Culture Run and the Jatiluwih Fun Run should double-check with their insurance provider that coverage is offered for these kinds of activities. Many standard travel and health insurance policies require an add-on adventure or sports insurance package.
