Bali Task Force Penalizes 12,000 Offenders For Not Following Health Protocols

Last week Bali Police Department designated a special team to enforce prevention protocols and locate violators during the pandemic. The team found 12,832 offenders in only the first week of operation.

The team consists of police, military, and public civil service officers. The Head of Operation from the Bali Police Department, Kombe Pol Firman Nainggolan said that the operation called Kontijensi Aman Nusa Agung Operation II-2021 has entered phase two this week.

“According to the report, the operation that started from the 1st to 9th of March 2021 has penalized 12,832 offenders- issuing 12,351 warnings, 497 fines, and while 217 offenders received social punishment to clean up public facilities,” said Nainggolan on Tuesday (9/3) at his office.

This operation was initiated to reduce the violators of prevention protocols in public areas and to support the government’s program to limit transmission and accelerate vaccination on the island.

He explained that among all violators, 271 people were fined USD 7 (IDR 100,000). Meanwhile, for the social punishment, the offenders were required to put on a “violator’s label” around their neck while cleaning up public facilities.

Nainggolan said that he will continue this operation during the pandemic in different places in Bali to assure that everyone is compliant with the prevention protocols in order to reduce Covid-19 transmission while the government is running the vaccination program.
