According to information from the Head of Tabanan Prison, Raden Budiman Patriatna Kusumah explained that the prison, located on Jalan Gunung Agung, has a maximum occupancy of 44 inmates.
Currently, 200 inmates are simultaneously held within the accommodation.
The prison has 18 cells in total, including 13 male cells, 2 female cells and 3 isolation rooms.

Each cell is designed to accommodate 3 to 4 inmates, yet the prison is holding 11 to 15 inmates in a single cell.
As a result, the inmates have very limited space.
“Most of the inmates in here were involved with illegal drug cases,” Raden Budiman said.
He has increased security measures as the lack of space could potentially trigger fights between inmates.
Budiman says he has managed the situation to minimize conflict between the inmates.
He also urged the government to pay more attention to this particular situation, especially considering the pandemic.
It is a cause of alarm as safety measures such as physical distancing become impossible to implement inside the prison.
