Bali Police Patrol Canggu Nightlife Scene To Improve Tourist Welfare

Share The Article

Police teams in Bali’s Canggu have been conducting nighttime patrols of the area to enhance safety for tourists.

Canggu is one of Bali’s leading tourism hotspots, and while millions of visitors have a safe and enjoyable time in the resort every year, crime is always a huge concern.

North Kuta Police, who oversee Canggu, have confirmed that they will be regularly carrying out night patrols in and around the top nightlife and entertainment venues in the area. The first of these new series of patrols took place on Friday, 24th October, and more will be carried out towards the end of the year. The first patrol focused on the Batu Bolong area of Canggu.

North Kuta Police confirmed that the patrol was led by First Inspector Bagus Made Kobarawan, Acting Head of Unit 3 Samapta, and two other officers. Officers searched several entertainment venues while they were open and operating, and these are known to be prone to disturbances. Officers instructed security personnel at each venue to always monitor all visitors and to report any actions that could potentially cause security disturbances.

First, Inspector Kobarawan told reporters, “We will always ensure that everyone feels safe and comfortable in public places.” Also speaking to reporters, North Kuta Police Chief Commissioner I Ketut Agus Pasek Sudina confirmed that these patrols were conducted based on monthly analyses and evaluations of reports from across the North Kuta jurisdiction.

This data analysis revealed that there are frequent security disturbances at nightclubs in the area, which are frequent enough to justify increased patrols.

Police Chief Sudina shared, “We are committed to maintaining public order and security in the Batu Bolong beach area, which is a center of economic and tourism activity.” He also confirmed that the patrols are not only to help crack down on disruptive behavior in these areas but also help create a great security presence that will help make tourists feel safer and deter potential offenders.

He noted, “This step is expected to minimize disturbances to public order and security and other forms of crime, so that the public and tourists feel safe and comfortable. This can encourage an increase in visits by both domestic and international tourists to tourist destinations.”

The same police units have also been conducting patrols in areas like Canggu, talking to tourism drivers and taxi drivers, working with them to ensure that they are operating within the law and prioritizing safety for all.

The increased patrols from North Kuta Police come alongside increased spot checks and patrols of the Canggu area by Immigration Task Force teams. As of August 2025, the Immigration Task Force has been deployed around all of Bali’s top tourism resort areas and top attractions.

Immigration patrols and spot checks have been carried out in Sanur, Legian, Seminyak, Ubud, and most recently in Canggu.

These spot checks conducted by the Immigration Task Force team are aimed at verifying the identity of tourists and ensuring that foreigners are not breaking the conditions of their visas, such as working on a tourist visa or operating business activities.

Following the most recent round of Immigration patrols in Canggu, Indonesia, Immigration shared, “Regular Immigration patrols take place in key areas across Bali, including Canggu. Officers perform random checks to ensure activities follow stay permits. Together we keep Bali safe for all.”

As a result of these increased patrols since August, it has been brought to the attention of tourists visiting Bali, and any destination across Indonesia, that they are required to carry their passports with them at all times.

In a recent confirmation of the law, Bali’s Ngurah Rai Immigration Office wrote, “Under Law Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration, Article 71 states that every foreign national must present and surrender their passport or residence permit when requested by an immigration officer for immigration control. We always advise carrying these ID documents. However, in some cases, we may use discretion and accept copies instead.”

Soon the police will be out looking for influencers / content creators without social media permits.

This as Indonesian gov. are considering to introduce a Certification System for Social Media Influencers in the same style as China. Influencers will no longer to be allowed to mention/discuiss topics they are not "licenced" for.

It is quite clear that some leaders look up to China iron grip on online activities.

The most effective policing is foot patrols. Get them off their bums and pounding the beat. It would be far more productive than chasing tourists for visa checks
