Authorities from the Badung Police Department in Bali have increased their surveillance on ATM machines to prevent criminal organizations from skimming bank cards.

Badung Public Relations Officer, Iptu Ketut Sudana confirmed that despite successfully reducing the criminal activity in his area, authorities have still decided to increase their surveillance on several ATM machines across the region.

“This operation was initiated to prevent criminal activities on the ATM’s as it has been a big problem in many areas of Bali,” Iptu Sudana said on Monday (29/11).

Sudana said that ATM’s are one of the easiest targets as the majority of them were installed outside buildings which makes it difficult to supervise.

“We are regularly patrolling ATM’s that are located in Mengwi, Badung in the evening, especially those that are located in quiet area where nobody is watching them other than the CCTV cameras.” Sudana added.

Sudana ensured the public that the officers will continue to increasing their surveillance program, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Badung has fewer criminal cases during the Covid-19 pandemic, but I think it’s still necessary to anticipate any criminal activity, especially on the financial institutions such as banks in our area.” Iptu Sudana concluded.
