Bali Police Hand Out Free Masks Instead Of Fines In Denpasar

Bali Police handed out over 500 face masks instead of fines in Denpasar as they work to educate the people about the dangers of COVID-19.

During an operation initiated by the Head of Indonesian Police Department, Police General Idhan Aziz called Zebra Lempuyang Operation, officers still found many people not following COVID-19 prevention protocols while driving.

The operation took place at Jalan Imam Bonjol, Denpasar on Sunday Nov 1st 2020.  The Officers were handing out free masks and only giving verbal warnings for not following prevention protocols to avoid Covid-19 transmission.

Head of Denpasar Traffic Officer, Taufan Rizaldy said that the Police have committed to run the operation with an educational approach.

“There were no fines, only a simple warning” Taufan said in an interview on Sunday Nov 1st 2020.

According to the command from General Idham Aziz on Oct 29th 2020, he prohibited the officers from handing out any fines during this particular operation.

During the operation, officers have handed out 500 face masks, 300 stickers and 200 brochures about traffic rules and COVID-19 prevention protocols.

The Police Department will continue Operation until Nov 8th 2020.

The Denpasar Police Department has given away over 1,600 face masks in total. Police said they want to focus on taking care of their citizens and raise awareness to help prevent them from being infected with the COVID-19 virus.
