The West Denpasar Police Department has detained 2 beggars carrying a large amount of cash and fancy motorbikes.
An officer of the West Denpasar Police Department confirmed that 2 street beggars were detained from the Jalan Teuku Umar Barat Intersection on Tuesday evening (26/4). They were identified as a 22-year-old man named Wisono from Jember, East Java and a 41-year-old man named Hariyanto from Banyuwangi, East Java.
“When we detained these beggars, we didn’t expect that they carried USD $549 (IDR 7,850,000) with them,” said the police on Wednesday (27/4).
The authority also found out that they both were using motorbikes Yamaha N-Max and Honda Vario and kept decent android cellphones. They hid these in bushes near the location.
The police officers are still interrogating them as they keep changing their answers and responses to the police. They are due to be handed over to the Civil Service Office for further handling.
“This is a very interesting case as we previously thought that people would start begging when they have financial issues. However, these people have decent vehicles, quite an amount of cash, and cellphones,” the police concluded.
