Did you know that Bali is one step closer to becoming a world-leading medical tourism destination?
Earlier this year, the new Bali International Hospital formally opened its doors, bringing in a new era for Sanur as a Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism.

Sanur is Bali’s original tourism resort. Over the decades, it has undergone a series of major transformations, but perhaps the transformation into Indonesia’s Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism was the biggest of all.
Sanur is now home to the world-class Bali International Hospital, and as part of the Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism, the area will now start welcoming more private specialised clinics for both medical tourists, international residents, and Indonesian nationals.
This week, Sanur welcomed Malaysian fertility clinic network Alpha IVF Group as they officially began construction of an international-standard fertility service center in the heart of Sanur.
The facility will be built on 6,343 square meters of land and will be developed by PT Alpha IVF and SPOG Bali (ASPOBA), which is a subsidiary of the Alpha IVF Group. The fertility center will provide comprehensive services, ranging from in vitro fertilization (IVF) and obstetrics and gynecology to women’s and children’s health.
Fertility tourism, a sub-sector of medical tourism, is growing at a rapid speed. According to Grand Review Research, “Fertility tourism market size was $1.57 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $6.18 billion by 2030.” This is a huge opportunity for those seeking fertility care, but also for Bali in its mission to become a world-leading medical tourism destination.
Speaking to reporters, Alpha IVF Group’s Group Managing Director, Dato’ Dr. Colin Lee, highlighted how Indonesia has a growing need for fertility services. He shared, “By establishing a service center in Bali, we want to bring international standards closer to the Indonesian people, while also supporting the government’s vision of making Sanur a premier health tourism destination in the region.”
The clinic is set to be open and operational within 18 months. Dr Lee shared his hopes that the clinic can help boost The Sanur’s notoriety as a medical tourism facility, and help further diversify the services available to patients.
Speaking at the launch event for the clinic’s construction, the President Director of PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (InJourney Hospitality), Christine Hutabarat, told reporters, “This initiative addresses the needs of thousands of Indonesians for quality fertility services. The presence of Alpha IVF, with its internationally recognized technology and medical personnel, will provide added value to improving health quality and national economic growth.”
She added, “We are optimistic that this collaboration can be a catalyst for creating an inclusive and sustainable healthcare tourism ecosystem.” The clinic will be the first flagship fertility facility in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and is set to be a key part of Alpha IVF Group’s expansion in Indonesia.

The services provided by Alpha IVF Group will be complemented by the Maternity and Pediatric Clinics at the Bali International Hospital. The hospital also specialises in Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Stem Cell, Aesthetic Surgery, Fertility Treatments, Eye Specialists, and Geriatrics.
The hospital is receiving high compliments from patients since its opening earlier this year, especially for maternity and paediatric care.

The hospital has shared “From the first heartbeat to every milestone in your child’s journey, our maternity and paediatric services at Bali International Hospital are here for every stage of growth.”
“We provide expert care that supports your family with compassion, trust, and personalized attention. Whether it is prenatal care, newborn support, or paediatric care for children of all ages, we create a nurturing environment where every detail is considered.”

The Bali International Hospital provides both elective and emergency care for international patients. The hospital has its own private ambulance service and emergency hotline that is staffed 24/7, available with fluent English speakers.
The hospital’s most popular services for international medical tourists are the screening packages, which start at IDR 3,400,000 and can be booked online, prior to arrival in Indonesia.
