The Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency has announced an extreme weather warning for Bali from 11th December to 18th December 2025.

The Bali BMKG has been issuing regular extreme weather updates as Indonesia faces one of the most devastating rainy seasons in living history.

The Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BBMKG) has issued an extreme weather alert for Bali Province that will stay in place until 18th December.

The statement explains, “ Based on monitoring by TCWC Jakarta, cyclone seed 93S formed on December 11, 2025, in the South Indian Ocean region of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Maximum wind speeds around the circulation system were 15 knots (28 km/h), and minimum pressure was around 1009 hPa.

The presence of this cyclone seed was supported by active Equatorial Rossby and low-frequency waves, as well as moderate vorticity in the lower to middle layers.”

Adding “This resulted in a pattern of air mass confluence and wind deflection over Bali. These conditions led to increased convective activity and the growth of rain clouds.” Communities across Bali, including those in top tourism resort areas, are being urged to expect dangerous weather conditions with the risk of flooding, fallen trees, and landslides significantly increased.

The BBMKG has forecast “Moderate to heavy rain is expected in Badung, Denpasar, Tabanan, Bangli, Gianyar, Karangasem, and parts of Jembrana, Buleleng, and Klungkung Regencies.”

The agency adds, “Strong winds are forecast in the Regencies of Badung, Denpasar, Tabanan, Jembrana, Bangli, Gianyar, Klungkung, and Karangasem. Sea waves reaching 1.25-2.5 meters are possible in the southern Bali Strait, Badung Strait, southern Lombok Strait, and southern Bali waters.

The Agency explains that the public must “Be aware of the potential for extreme weather in several areas of Bali, which could lead to hydrometeorological disasters (floods, flash floods, landslides, strong winds, tornadoes, and hail), depending on the vulnerability level of each region.”

The weather warnings come with guidance for the public to help stay safe during this period of extreme weather.

The BBMKG explained, “The public and relevant agencies are advised to remain vigilant for sudden weather changes and the potential for extreme weather, including moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, over the next seven days.”

“Areas with steep, mountainous, or cliff-like topography should be especially vigilant for the impacts of hydrometeorological disasters, such as landslides and fallen trees.”

The BBMKG concluded, “Keep emergency contacts of relevant officials in each region handy to address potential disasters that could occur at any time. Monitor all the latest weather information only through the official BMKG website, either through social media @bmkgbali or the official website at Cuaca.bmkg.go.id.”

Here at The Bali Sun, we share emergency updates from the Indonesian authorities to help share updates translated into English for our readers. Tourists in Bali have already been warned this week to be extra mindful in the areas already badly affected by this season’s rains.

On Wednesday, 10th December, a partial road collapse was recorded in Kintamani at a busy section of Penelokan Main Road.

Tourists driving to Kintamani along Penelokan Main Road from the Tunon intersection are advised to drive extremely cautiously until the road is fixed, which could only be by the New Year. There will be traffic officers stationed at the point of the collapsed road to regulate an on-off one-way traffic flow.

It is essential that all tourists traveling to Bali take out a fully comprehensive travel insurance policy before traveling to Bali. It is important that tourists understand how they can make a claim prior to traveling to Bali so that they understand what to do in the event of an emergency. Tourists should also ensure that their policy covers natural disasters, extreme weather, and evacuation.
