The rainy season in Bali this year is no joke. In September, the province saw the worst floods in over 70 years, and with this festive season set to be busier than ever, leaders are calling on tourism businesses to prepare.

Accommodation providers in Bali are being encouraged to create indoor activity programs for their guests this festive season, as well as taking rainy season disaster management planning very seriously indeed.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Associations, Tjok Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, told reporters that forward planning is key for a successful rainy and festive season.
Sukawati, also known as Cok Ace, told reporters, “Of course, the indoor and outdoor atmospheres are different. We mitigate this by creating more attractive settings to attract tourists so that the economy can continue to grow.”
Cok Ace spoke to the concerns tourists may have traveling to Bali, especially in light of the recent devastation recorded by Cyclone Senyar up in Sumatra. He assured, “Hotels in Bali have collaborated with the Regional Disaster Management Agency to certify hotels in anticipation of earthquakes and disasters.”
He noted that hotel occupancy in Bali will increase in the third week of December by around 20%. Many of the island’s resorts and hotels will be fully booked over the festive season. With this in mind, tourists who have yet to make their bookings are advised to do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
The Badung Regency Government, which oversees many of Bali’s busiest tourism resorts, including Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, and Uluwatu, has confirmed that it will also work collaboratively to ensure the festive season flows smoothly for tourists, residents, and businesses.
The Regent of Badung, Wayan Adi Arnawa, told reporters, “We, along with all relevant parties, are committed to ensuring he comfort of the public and tourists during the 2026 Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.“
He added that, with the large influx of visitors set to arrive, all agencies need to work cooperatively. He noted, “This situation needs to be carefully anticipated, considering that Badung is one of Indonesia’s top tourist destinations.”
Regent Arnawa concluded, “We as a hope for public support in working together to maintain security so that the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations can proceed safely, orderly, and smoothly.”
Tourists traveling to Bali over the festive season and at any point during this rainy season, which typically runs until the end of March, are advised to have plenty of indoor options on their itineraries.
This could be family-friendly fun like a day out at the Trans Studio Theme Park in Denpasar, or a shortlist of all the shopping malls they want to visit. It has to be said that shopping malls and retail complexes in Bali offer so much more than shopping.

These are fully fledged entertainment venues. Bali’s newest shopping mall, ICON Bali in Sanur, is a fantastic option for the rainy day itinerary list.
The complex is home to everything from a shopping mall to an indoor floating market, a vertical forest, and direct beachfront access for when the rain clouds disappear.

Of course, one of the most reliable rainy day options for any Bali itinerary is cafe hopping. Whether in the heart of Seminyak or up in Ubud, cosy coffee-filled cafe days are the best when the rain starts to pour over Bali.

In all seriousness, tourists traveling to Bali this rainy season should make sure that they have plenty of rainy-day activities up their sleeves, but also ensure they have fully comprehensive travel insurance too.
Flooding, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes could disrupt travel at any time, and it is important that tourists are covered for every eventuality.
