Bali Immigration Gives Clarity To Tourists Over Visa Extension Process

Share The Article

Dealing with Indonesian immigration is becoming increasingly digitalized and straightforward.

For most tourists, the only interaction they need to have with immigration is to apply online for the eVisa on Arrival and pass through the autogates at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International upon arrival and departure.

For those who need to stay longer or plan on taking part in specific activities while in Indonesia, there is a little more interaction with immigration services.

For the most part, the most appropriate visa for tourists, holidaymakers, and even long-stay backpackers and travelers is the eVisa on Arrival. This visa costs IDR 500,000 per person and can be applied for online in the days before your trip to Indonesia. This visa is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for an additional 30 days, for a total of 60 days in Indonesia.

The extension process is straightforward but requires tourists to complete the Hybrid Application Process. This means making an extension application request online via the Official Indonesian Immigration Website before attending an in-person appointment at their nearest Immigration Office for biometrics, document checks, and in some cases an interview.

The Denpasar Immigration Office has issued updated advice to tourists planning on extending their visas.

The office is reminding tourists that the address they put on their extension application request decides which office they must attend for the formal appointment.

Denpasar Immigration explains, “Currently, the working area of the Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I TPI Denpasar covers Denpasar City, Gianyar Regency, Bangli Regency, and Badung Regency (Mengwi Abiansemal and Penang).”

In practical terms, this means that all those staying in Canggu, Seseh, Smeinyak, Legian, Kuta, Uluwatu, Sanur, Ubud, and even Kintamani, will be called to the Denpasar Immigration Office for their extension appointment.

For those who are staying in Tabanan Regency and Klungkung Regency, they will be called to the Tabanan Immigration Office or the Klungkung Immigration Office, respectively. In practical terms, this means that those staying in Kedungu, Tanah Lot, Balian, Bedugul, and Jatiluwih will be called to the newly opened Tabanan Immigration Office.

Those staying in Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, and cities like Semarapura will be called to the Klungkung Immigration Office. Those staying in the north and west of the island are typically called to the Singaraja Immigration Office.

The issue had been causing problems for tourists planning multi-stop vacation itineraries, as they were confused about where to go to complete their visa extension appointments.

Tourists do not get a choice in which office they attend; the appointment is assigned based on the address given in the application.

Tourists applying for a Visa Extension must be ready to attend an in-person appointment within 48 hours of submitting the application, taking working days into account. The Hybrid Application System is still relatively new.

Introduced in May 2025, in-person extension application appointments were designed to help crack down on the rising number of immigration-related violations by foreigners on tourist visas, including working and investing while on visitor visas.

Bali has just launched the Dharma Dewata Immigration Task Force, which will conduct regular patrols in top tourist resorts and areas popular with international communities.

Speaking at the launch of the new immigration teams, Indonesia’s Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, said,  “This is a concrete manifestation of the state’s presence in surveillance. We want to provide a preventative effect while ensuring law enforcement.”
