Top tourism leaders in Bali are calling for the government to help subsidize flight tickets throughout the country to help boost tourism.
The calls come as Bali enters its high season and is on track to smash tourism targets set for 2025.

The Association of the Indonesian Tours & Travel Agencies (ASITA) calls on the government to expand the economic stimulus package to encourage national tourism growth.
According to ASITA, the current stimulus package for transportation ticket discounts, specifically for air travel, does not directly boost the domestic tourism ecosystem and does not benefit international tourists either.
Just a few weeks ago, the Indonesian Minister of Finance announced a series of new regulatory updates that would help discount domestic flight tickets during the June and July school holiday period.
The Chairman of ASITA, Rusmiati, spoke to reporters about the impact the new regulations are having on tourist travel opportunities within Indonesia, and the potential for improvement before the peak season is over.
Rusmiati and ASITA are calling for longer-term flight subsidies to help ease the cost of travel for both domestic and international tourists throughout the year.
He explained “Airplane tickets [moving] forward can be more affordable in general, not only at certain moments or are temporary. That way, air travel will be more inclusive and have a wide impact on the growth of local tourism.”
He and his teams are also calling for the government to give tax breaks and lift restrictions on Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) activities. This would encourage more events to take place across Indonesia, including in Bali, which would boost the hospitality sector further.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto ordered this week that more domestic airports open their capacity to welcome international flight services.
During a state visit to Singapore, President Subianto told reporters, “I have instructed the relevant ministries in Indonesia to increase the opening of all airports to direct foreign airline connections to our airports, many of which still need to be opened.”

Flight connectivity in and out of Bali is better than ever before, both internationally and domestically. Flight availability has been increasing over the last year and will improve even further next week. Starting on June 25th, 2025, Indonesia AirAsia will launch a new direct flight service between Adelaide and Denpasar.
Indonesia AirAsia’s outbound flight service will operate out of Adelaide on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The service will depart from Adelaide at 7:50 a.m. and touch down at 10:40 a.m. local time in Denpasar on flight number QZ 421.

The inbound service will take off from Denpasar at 11.30 pm local time and arrive in Adelaide at 7.10 am local time using flight number QZ 420. Starting 26 June 2025, the service will operate every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Speaking to reporters at the time of the new flight announcement, the Chief Executive of Indonesia AirAsia, Veranita Yosephine, shared, “We are thrilled to touch down in Adelaide and South Australia soon for the very first time. Australia is one of our most important growth markets with the recent addition of Cairns and Darwin to our network as well as Perth.”

Looking towards the end of the year, flight availability will increase once again as Jetstar has recently confirmed that it will be launching a new Newcastle-Denpasar flight service starting in October.
The service is set to operate three times a week departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The new route offers Bali-bound holidaymakers and travelers access to more than 70,000 seats annually with a flight time of under six hours.

From the article you linked "Only 16 intra-Asia routes will be impacted by the closure of Jetstar Asia with no changes to Jetstar Airways and Jetstar Japan services into Asia. All of Jetstar Airways international services in and out of Australia remain unchanged."

The Government of Indonesia sets unreasonably crazy ticket prices. Bali-Lombok ticket, which takes only 20 minute flight, costs Rp. 1.2 million. Dunno why Bali-Surabaya flight is cheaper than Bali-Lombok.
